That's okay. For some reason, on my trip to Mexico, I chose to go to a Chineese place for dinner. NOT A GOOD IDEA. Glad to know you survived.

Yep, no offense to anyone....but after seeing the living conditions in parts of Mexico & hearing about the stories in the orphanages......you don't feel quite so bad about "ugly" beaches. Even at their worst, SoWal beaches are still incredibly beautiful compared to most parts of the world.

GB & RO-

Isn't it amazing how much poverty you fly over when coming into Mexico City? Slums are just about all you see for the last 30 minutes or so of your flight.

You can never fully realize how big that city is until you fly over it. I swear you are right, for at least 20 minutes we were flying over the city & it was wall-to-wall buildings. In Chatt that would take about 30 seconds.

I read in the paper when I got home that the volcano erupted in Mexico City, that it spewed volcanic rock 1/2 mile into the air, & several communities had to be evacuated because of ash...AND WE NEVER EVEN KNEW IT! Boy that's a big city !!!!

I experienced my first and only earthquake while in Mexico City. Thankfully, no volcanos popped off. That whole city is a timebomb anyway. I think they built it on a lakebed or something.

AS a matter of fact, we went to the "Zocolo" in downtown MC & went into the cathedral that is sinking. Amazinging beautiful architecture. My son's spanish teacher said that the city was built on top of a lake that had dried up & the ground was not able to support it. You have to go down ramps because the cathedral is sinking. There was a marker in the center of the building to show how much it has shifted....we will post pics later. It would be a shame for those buildings to be destroyed because they are incredible.

That was also the part of town that really opened the kids' eyes (and mine) to other parts of the world. They had never seen beggers like that, with little kids & babies sitting on the sidewalks asking for $. We held on to all the kids tightly but never felt threatened. Our kids are really so fortunate to live the way they do, safely & with all their needs met & exceeded.
