I tend to think this award for the president is because of the good he did in the campaign and the few months after winning the election. World recognition is what the Nobel Peace Prize is about. It is not an American Award selected by Americans. Thank goodness it is not selected by Americans. What these naysayers are moaning about is falling on the deaf ears of the committee. YIPPEE:clap:

I'm curious to learn what "good he did in the election campaign and the few months after winning? Did I miss something big? Was it the remarks about the policeman followed by a gathering at the White House for a beer peace talk? I'd love to hear what he did on the campaign that brought peace to the world. Did you read the qualifications for the prize winner, according to Alfred Nobel which I posted earlier?

Try and think about it...How 'bout a MASSIVE international sigh of relief by the entire free world for just winning the damn election--after we'd been blindly led by a pompous, moron for eight years. That, in itself, deserve a additional carving into Mt. Rushmore as well!

Yeah, you must have. It seems many people all over the world have felt the positive effect of the possibility of a better future, the possibility of working towards peace more effectively, and the pride in a leader that brings a positive outlook to many in his country. Totally worth the peace prize, and more, according to the way I read Alfred Nobel's will. I can't imagine why anyone would diss positive perception of the US and the President. Positive news is always welcome, especially in a world with so much negative news.

My take: he hasn't done much to deserve the award. But, he has the most power to fulfill Alfred Nobel's intentions, and it's clear from Obama's rhetoric that he intends to move in that direction.

Will he or won't he is an entirely different discussion. Here's my column on the subject, on newsstands in the Gainesville area.

How do you think Obama will respond to his top advisor's request to send in more troops to Afghanistan, after receiving an award which is given to someone who has drawn down standing troops, according to Alfred Nobel? Do you think that by being given this award for past actions, that Obama will now have to live up to the award, and now draw down troops rather than increasing troops as his top generals are suggesting?
