President Obama is minutes away from addressing the nation on the economy. He is supposed to be outlining steps his admin is taking to get us to recovery...

I seriously hope he does NOT make it sound like we are out of the woods or like anything he has done since he has been in office (e.g. stimulus) has gotten us there...

The bounceback in the stock market from the recent lows is good news for Geitner and Obama. And there are some encouraging signs in Fin Serv earnings announcements and (dare I say) housing numbers...

But it would be (IMHO) shortsighted to declare "Mission Accomplished" and/or to put a partisan "it's working" spin on anything.

Now let's see what he says...

Cheers, G

He definitely walks a fine line between trying to be optimistic and enthusiastic and, on the other hand, tempered and cautiously concerned. There will be no "Mission Accomplished" banners this time, but I feel he an Geitner et al. have done a lot of good groundwork in attempting to kick start the economy--I am just glad everyone is in 100% agreement on this.

(BTW Geo thanks for creating a post--lately it has been like reading last weeks newspaper over and over again)

Ok. So far so good.

He has done a good job of explaining the situation we are in and how we got here (with no blame on dems/repubs).

Now he is talking about what they've done so far and what they will do to get us from "recession to recovery to prosperity"...

That's easy, he plans to raise taxes. :D

Only on the top earners is what he has said all along...
:D

I personally wouldn't have a problem with a flat tax increase across the board.
Drastic times=drastic measures

But he won't do that because of campaign promises...
:dunno:

Our government needs to find an industry it likes, manufacture a widget and make money. Market it, sell it, make money.

He's already raised taxes on all income groups when he raised various sin taxes a month or so ago. His budget includes various taxes and system that will increase taxes on all income groups and businesses, including small business, as well. The promise of only raising taxes on top earners has already been broken, and will likely be broken again and again over the next few years.

Or, we can just migrate into a world government, world power, world currency. :D
