OMG! What do I wear?

I have absolutely nothing to say about what to wear (other than seconding Mango's suggestion to go nekkid.) If it's important, I let other people dress me.

But I hope you have a wonderful time! I'm sure you'll look beautiful in whatever pink frock you choose.

Years ago, a friend of mine worked for Ralph Lauren in NYC. I believe one of her co-workers gave her this book Fanny McFancy, A Passion for Fashion, by Patricia Thackray, about a whooping crane who worried just a bit too much about what to wear. I ordered my own copy, and read it to Kate often - unfortunately the message is slow to sink in with her.

There once was a time, as every bird knows
When whooping cranes wore fancy clothes.
Imagine migrating-the thought of it pales-
In a strapless ball gown or top hat and tails.
Wading through swamps or pole-vaulting hurdles
In pedal-pushers, whoop skirts, and girdles.....


Fanny McFancy of Whooping Crane Square
Was a rare bird of fashion, a bird of great flair,
A chic bird who always knew just what to wear.
Fanny did not wear her fancy things lightly,
She changed outfits morning, noonly, and nightly.


Each day she was swamped with engraved invitations
To galas, regattas, and masked migrations.
At every affair she was bird of the ball
Adored and admired by one and by all.

While opening the mail with her manicured beak,
A shocking pink letter caused her to SHRIEK!


"To Fanny McFancy of Whooping Crane Square
Please come for tea and oyster eclair
Wear your best frock and bring your own chair.
This afternoon at a quarter to three.
Countess Winifred von Crane, RSVP."


"Today, whoop! Good heavens,
That's much much too soon.
I'll never be ready by this afternoon!"
The most fashionable birds about town witll be there:
Winifred, Carmen, Ucello, and Claire.

(Her mother is summoned and she watches as Fanny tries on and discards outfit after outfit. She becomes more hystericalby the minute, and the doctor is summoned, who disgnoses her with advanced case of "Nothing to Wear".

As Fanny lay in a faint, she had a dream where a little bird came to her and said...

"Fanny, you're beautiful just as you are.
You don't need new outfits to make you a star."
Fanny woke with a whoop, feeling chipper and hearty.
"I must hurry," she said "or be late for the party!"


'But Fanny", asked mother, "what will you wear?"
"Why nothing at all. I plan to go BARE."
"Shocking...a scandal...you just wouldn't dare!
No one who's anyone goes anywhere bare!"


So Fanny went to the party wearing absolutely nothing...

"Ucello said, "Whoop, girls, here comes you-know-who...
Your outfit-why Fanny, it's you, simply you!"
"Yes, charming," chirped Clarissa
"Tea, one lump, or two?"

Said Winifred, whining, "It's highly unfair-
You've outdone us all. Have an oyster eclair?"
"Well, really," trilled Carmen, "you've stolen the scene.
Where did you get it? Here, have some shooped cream."


"You're too kind," said Fanny, "but thank you my dears.
It cost next to nothing. I've had it for years!"
She started a craze among cranes everywhere
The natural look became THE thing to wear.

Ask Fanny why and she'll gladly explain
That clothes, fancy clothes,never did make the crane.

BB, have a wonderful time. You will look great in what ever you wear. The outfit and jewelery sound perfect, especially the scarf, pearls and boots!
I want to know what Kay wears! We want a detailed report!

Ok, I'm wearing a dark charcoal grey fitted skirt, black knee high boots, no hose, black fab top with a big ballerina style neck with 3/4 sleeves, big black baroque tahitian pearls, Doris Panos (one of my fav jewelry designers) black tahitian pearl earrings, and to top that off.....a fuschia pink pashmina scarf! ;-) I can always go home at lunch and change again.

Ohhh BB girl...I was just about to suggest dark charcoal....it's really great this fall
AND...it goes with any hue of pink you want to put with it! I can so see you in your outfit you've described above! YOU ROCK IT OUT!
