Don't let SWGB fool ya. I met said niece, and believe me when I tell you that, if she could drive, Uncle GB would be utterly unnecessary. :D She is a smartie, and a real beauty, to boot.

It is so heartwarming to read these posts. I remember those days well.

Sometimes I long for them even though I was worn out most days. Enjoy this time with the little one SWGB, because in the blink of an eye she will be driving out of the driveway alone, and then a whole other set of restlessness occurs for you. You will find yourself jumping at the sound of the phone ringing, any sound of a siren in the vicinity will make your heart race, you will not go to sleep until said child is driving up in the driveway, you will say over and over and over "Call me when you get there" "Call me when you start to leave for home" "Call me when you get home". Good luck to you and have funn with her because this to shall pass and you can always catch up on your sleep when she goes home.

This is the phase we're rapidly approaching, and I'm :yikes:. It's led me to wonder how our poor parents coped prior to cell phones.

I remember those days although they were long ago.

One boy that my oldest daughter had a date with I was not too fond of. He didn't have such a great reputation. So when he came to pick her up I used a line I had heard somewhere.

I looked straight into his eyes and said, " I don't know what your intentions are as for as my daughter go but I want you to understand one thing, I'M NOT AFRAID TO GO BACK TO THE PENITENTIARY!! She said it was not a good date and didn't know why he brought her home early & never ask her out again. :rotfl:

Exactly, the girl is a doll and smart--she has probably helped organize and has given structure to the DC/SWGB household--probably the best thing that ever happened there.

Too much whining on swgb's part, IMO.

It was pretty easy - we just told them where we were going, who we would be with, and what time we would be back. If those plans changed, you called them - on a pay phone if you weren't at a residence.

Canoehead's parents got a 1-800 number so their 5 kids could always call home w/o needing a quarter.

I called him yesterday (to get him to post the info that the 331 bridge was closed) and he was at the pool w/ his neice. Apparently the deal was that if she let him take a nap, then they would go to the pool!

hmmm. wonder where swgb is lately. hope he's relaxed and going with the flow - having fun and just enjoying the week with his precious niece. I don't hear him complaining lately...??

There is probably peanut butter in his computer keys leaving him unable to contribute at the moment.

More likely niece has commandeered his computer to work on her thesis.
