I have not been back in there lately, but I understand that they are busy developing land which you cannot see from the road. Owl's Head encompasses much more land than the small patch of grass you see from 331.

Last ad I saw for Owl's Head mentioned a "coastal inland lake." Are they building a lake there?

I would guess that they will build some lakes, but there are currently several natural lakes already on that property, and a few are fairly large.

Drove past on the way home this week, any updates on how the project is doing, when the Palmer course is projected to open, etc?

Wouldn't be surprised if it was there to keep the development from looking too Mediterranian/South Florida. But it seems like a bad idea not allow some roofing materials that are both extremely wind and fire-resistant, given that the area is prone to both hurricanes and wildfires.

Actually, wood shingles are very resistant to wind if they are installed correctly. They also tend to keep a roof structure intact in very high winds because they allow pressure to escape the interior without lifitng the entire roof off of the walls. Some areas require underlayment on each course of shingles which negates this effect and causes curling and premature roof failure. A correct wood roof will last 50+ years. On the negative side, they will of course burn easily.

Does it say that the shingles have to be wood or have the look of wood? You can get faux wood shingles as well.

All over the place
Fire retardant (Note: NOT fire PROOF)treated wood shingles are mandated in many areas. They are available, but at what cost in SoWal:dunno:
