He sometimes teamed with his wife and fellow Oscar winner, Joanne Woodward, with whom he had one of Hollywood's rare long-term marriages. "I have steak at home, why go out for hamburger?" Newman told Playboy magazine when asked if he was tempted to stray.

My daddy used to say that all the time.

Paul Newman's class, his classic movie star looks, and big-hearted generosity are what made us all love him. He really walked the walk. The world was a better place for him having lived in it. He used his celebrity in the best possible way. Fortunately, his legacy lives on. We need more like him.

This breaks my heart. I loved that blue-eyed hunk...I didn't even know he was sick.

There had been rumors for months that he was ill but he always denied the allegations. He died from lung cancer so apparently he was ill for some time.

This is so weird. I dreamed about him last night. I told my family this at breakfast before we even heard the news.

Here's a funny story, and if I'm not mistaken Hop heard this firsthand: We were at a Thespian (*snort*) conference a couple of years ago where students were interviewed for scholarships. One of the judges mentioned Paul Newman, and the sweet little kid said, "Oh, yeah! I know him--he's the salad dressing guy!"
