He lived a good long life, but it's still so sad to see him go. I guess it's because you hate to say goodbye to the *best* people. I loved him in a lot of movies, but probably Slap Shot, Nobody's Fool, Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy, and The Sting were my faves. Check out these clips. The first one goes way back (1954, the year I was born), and has some interesting homoerotic overtones: James Dean and Paul Newman at an audition for East of Eden. The second one is from Cool Hand Luke, when he sings "Plastic Jesus." Such a silly little ditty, but he brings so much to it.
