Actually, Hoover and the Congress implemented tighter controls by the government, the exact opposite of what was needed.

Where? The only controls he implemented were relative to aviation and broadcasting. For every other industry, he advocated voluntarism. :dunno:

Gosh, where to start. One prominent control was in imports. The government placed increased tariffs thru the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act. We also had the birth of the NLRB which was offered as an offset to big business that had too much money. Labor unions, spurred on by NLRB decisions would tilt the table back to being fair. This act still has effects today (see the Big Three). Then we had deficit spending at the behest of Keynes himself who saw Big Government as the solution. We had increased banking regulation as well as the Fed draining liquidity during a deflationary period. Throughout the thirties, we experienced incredible amounts of legislation like the unions, farms and minimum wages. The two sweeping programs that still haunt us today are the New Deal and the Great Society. :sosad:
