Not really uncomfortable, unless you don't fit it well. I remember the first time that I had to wear one of those harnesses. I was learning to rock climb and had to make my own harness out of a long strap (Army teachers) --those first few times felt really awkward, but after you realize their importance, they begin to feel like a security blanket.
