The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly:
I stopped by the local rinky-dink mall today to buy a couple of other things. I figured it would be a piece of cake at 2:30 on a workday, but I could just barely find a parking place. The place was absolutely packed. I almost turned around and went home, but figured it would only get worse between now and Monday. That was the bad and the ugly.
But as soon as I got out of the car, I ran into my old piano teacher's daughter, and then I saw one of my old Young Life kids (whose mother was my typing teacher in the ninth grade, and whose aunt was the first and only teacher to send me out in the hall!) and then I saw another old family friend--she actually graduated from high school with my mother, and I crashed my bike in front of her house when I was six and knocked a permanent tooth out. Then I spent another ten minutes talking to a family who used to live up the road from me.
My little town is getting crowded, which drives me crazy, but there is something truly wonderful about going to the local rinky-dink mall and seeing that many people in the space of 20 minutes who have been part of my life for the last 30 years.
Christmas really is pretty cool.
