From the title of this thread, I thought you were going to show your volunteering spirit by giving back to the community and saying that you were cleaning poop from the beaches and public areas. I got suckered in to another advertisement.

I don't mind advertisements that are helpful and not too pushy. It's good to know what services are offered and what new businesses are in the area (especially for those of us who aren't from the area and are trying to learn as much as we can from afar).

It would be helpful if the title of the threads that are advertising state that their post will be an advertisement for services so the people reading it will know what they're going to read about before they check out the messages (so they can skip them if they want to).

I must say, if you bring your pet to the beach please pick up after it. If you are too lazy, then by all means get the pet butler to do it.

Ditto....a better idea would be to don shirts with your company's advertisement and walk up and down the beach and sidewalks picking up poo & trash? Write it off as an advertising expense.

Well, I considered giving Pet Butler a try until I realized that they are putting up illegal signage along our roadways. This is not the way to gain new biz. A proliferation of illegal signage is almost as bad as a proliferation of poo.

Another good way to advertise is on the bulletin board at PetSmart and at local pet accessories shops, even at veterinary office. I would also provide brochures and business cards to all the management companies in the area.

They might start with attempting a contract with the State Parks and Walton County for public beaches and public access points. I swear, we see a lot of people with their dogs on the beaches, but hardly ever see poo bags or people cleaning up after their dogs. (I know this isn't true for everyone.) The last time we were there, I watched a lady encourage her poodle to go right on the sidewalk at the Seaside amphitheater, then she walked away from it!

Maybe we need those "Mean Green Machines" like they have in Paris. We have two of them in our town and they are great for cleaning up when others don't. Years ago, you could hardly walk down the streets of Paris for all the dog poo. In fact, the very first words I ever heard on my first trip to Paris were from the taxi driver, "Feit attencions!" to prevent me from stepping out of the taxi right into a doggie pie the size of a souffle. Now the Mean Greenies swoop down ASAP on any offending steamer. Okay, too close to lunch for this thread. I'm outta here!

What a thread this is! Jessifunn, these little blue bags come in a wee plastic trash can that clips onto your dog leash. You pull a long blue bag out of the wee can, pick the poo up and turn the bag inside out, tie the top into a knot. Your hands never touch poo, unless you're really spastic. Then the blue bag and poo go into the next available trash can. If no cans are available, we have been known to tie the blue bag into a tree limb or fence, then retrieve it on the way back to the house. Yeah, it's not a pleasant chore. But in fairness to others, it is something people who own dogs should get comfortable with before getting the dog. All I can say is...small dogs definitely have their advantages. :roll:

I definitely agree that people advertising their business should not post signs illegally. It would make me not want to do business with the company because I want the companies I deal with to be very trustworthy and legal in every way. Subtly letting people know a useful business is starting is a good idea even on this message board; overdoing it or posting signs illegally is not (and can turn away from the business).
