Landlocked said:Hey folks,
I'm sure this has been talked about but what is all that pipe for that's laying next to the roads down there? Stupid question, I know, but I was just wondering. LL
Bdarg said:The black pipe with the pipe stripe is High-Density PolyEthylene (HDPE) pipe. It can be used to carry a variety of liquids and slurries. The color stripe is the a code that indicates the intended use. It is very durable and once the lengths of pipe are fused together it is for all purposes one continuous pipe.
The green pipe on the stands is carbon steel pipe used to carry high pressure natural gas. it is on the stands because it has to be welded together. The areas of bare metal are then coated in the green covering like the rest of the pipe to prevent corrosion. Once you get to low pressure pipe like in a subdivision or other development it is a yellow plastic pipe.
