I found it fascinating that PC has been injected into our society ever so subtly over decades that it's almost as if no one noticed. But somewhere back in the 90's is when i began hearing it, maybe even the 80's. So, Let's get bob in his racist mode here. when you are using terms of race, do you say: white or European, Black or African American, Mexican or Latino, Chinese or Asian, Indian or Native American?
Retarded or challenged, cripple or handicapped? I mean let's face it, these are all terms we grew up with (at least i did) and now it's not, acceptable if you will, to say these words anymore? :dunno:
Sometimes I just want to be real. I don't want to hurt feelings... I'm a nice person, but why can't i be a nice person who's not politically correct? And what effect does PC really have on POLITICS. Why is it called POLITICALLY CORRECT? Dont you wish sometimes our leaders would just say what they really want to say instead of dancing around every issue afraid of hurting the feelings of a potential voter or another country? Let me have it.

SSP----------If you really want a good laugh on PC read Ann Coulters book "Guilty". It will have you rolling in the floor.:rotfl:

Since Bob is being so quiet: I say white, black, Mexican, Chinese (if I don't know the Far East nationality, I say Asian) and Indian. I am Indian and I am also sensitive to peoples' feelings. My nephew is Down's Syndrome and he is retarded in his ability to expand his brain power and thinking. All of these terms are correct. From the article you posted, I conclude PC came into being to 'brainwash' people's normal mode of thinking so that Communism could infiltrate societies.

From the Little League thread, someone posted his desire that PC wouldn't damage the genuiness of the sport. I agree with ClintClint.

Still waiting for Bob to explain his comment to me with 'bush' and I agree with 30-A Shopper that Bob might be frustrated politically on some level. I give the benefit of the doubt however until he steps up to explain himself.

Otherwise, the comment was not even related to the two threads and it was uncalled for..........could this beating around the 'bush' actually be projection?

Interesting topic, but, I have to say that I am not buying into the authors premise that PC originated from some Communist Social Research Group bringing it to the US-- especially after Hitler came to power?

Talk about propaganda. The citizens of those Countries feared for their lives if they spoke against the grain of Communism or Fascism. Communist Countries dictated, and still do, what work you did, sports you played, what you ate; so PC, IMHO was the least of their worries.

If, on the small chance that was their aim, they failed miserably because our PC stems from people actually having voice in this Country.

He says, "It is changing the American society from within, and the citizens of this nation are increasingly censoring themselves and losing their freedom of speech out of fear of Political Correctness repression."
(Ok, there can be a debate here about this......)

But, then contradicts himself with this: " All citizens who cherish liberty must reject the scourge of Political Correctness. Freedom of speech must be preserved in America if we are to continue to be free."

Then he totally lost me here:
"It's one thing is to be educated, considerate, polite and have good manners, and another to be forced to self-censor and say things that are totally incorrect in order to comply with the arbitrary dictums of a deceiving and fanatical far-left agenda."

But, my question is, what do we lose as a society when certain terms or descriptive phrases are used that are meant to degrade or criticize someone's beliefs or force yours on them?

I just hope terms that are meant to degrade or persuade another aren't used. But, we do have Freedom of Speech and some do use blatantly critical terms to degrade, bully, etc.

I don't know about the Communist regime being used to infiltrate America, but I would tend to believe it was used to slide into other societies.

But, with SSB thought provoking post, something like the 'n' word, I personally feel is degrading. However, there was a time in our society that it was not, but rather the norm. So, I guess there is an evolution.

Newsmax Media - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia History

Christopher W. Ruddy started Newsmax.com on September 16, 1998, supported by a group of conservative investors, including the family of the late Central Intelligence Agency Director William J. Casey. Later Richard Mellon Scaife, his former employer at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and a supporter of conservative causes, invested in the fledging company.[2] One of the initial board members was author James Dale Davidson who edited a financial newsletter that had shared Ruddy's interest in the Vincent Foster case. Davidson's co-editor, Lord Rees-Mogg, former editor of the The Times and Vice Chair of the BBC, later became chairman of Newsmax Media.[3]

Other news figures who later joined the Newsmax board included Arnaud de Borchgrave, the longtime Newsweek chief correspondent who also serves as editor at large of UPI and Jeff Cunningham, former publisher of Forbes. The late Admiral Thomas Moorer, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who helped bring the Vietnam War to a close, also served as one of the company's founding board members. Former Nixon Chief of Staff and Secretary of State Alexander M. Haig Jr. has served as special advisor to NewsMax.[9]

you asked, so consider the source of the article. pc bashing is a blatant attempt to role back the clock to white, christian domination in our society. it's rather amusing

Lynnie, if you manage to find out what his thought processes are, please let me know and if it isn't posted, PM me. I have been trying to figure it out for some time now and I'm at a complete loss.
And even though he may come back and say that is because I am stupid, unintelligent and uniformed, I know that is not true because my wife tells me it isn't so.
andy, your posts serve me as a reference point.

pc bashing is code for racism bushbaby!

Texas A & M has an annual contest for the best definition of a contemporary expression. One year's choice phrase was "political correctness." Here's the definition that took the prize:
Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

So Bob, if someone's doing pc bashing, does that mean they get to step on the turd? :D
