Possible Oleander Poisoning

I think my dog may have eaten a leaf or something from our oleanders... does anyone know what we can do to help him feel better?

Have him eat some grass and yak it up?

I'd call the vet - different plants have different treatments and you can sometimes do more harm if you don't do the correct one.

I would call the vet too. That stuff can do some pretty serious damage, especially if he ate an entire leaf. I don't know what the standard treatment for that is (in a human being anyways), but like the pp said, sometimes doing one over the other could do more harm than good... forcing it out, charcoaling it up, pumping it out, etc...

Thanks, the vet said since he is puking it up naturally that is good-- I don't know for sure what is going on. He said he can have pepto too. Though he won't lick it up... so I put some on some meat... I hope he is okay.

Vet said if he doesn't improve in 24 hours to bring him in...

I love how oleander looks. We wanted to plant a few down the side of our house, but decided against it because we knew we wanted children and would still be living here. That stuff scares me and kids will eat anything. I've dug many leaves out of these two little mouths and if we'd had oleander in the yard, it may have been much worse. We don't do poinsettias at Christmas for the same reason.

Unfortunately Noche is still very sick. I haven't posted in a while- but have read your comments.

It may be that he was sick before this incident and we didn't know it, but I have to believe it was from the Oleander- as he is always by our side- we would have noticed.

The vet thinks he may be having kidney failure. He hasn't kept anything down since May 28th. He has lost almost 20 pounds. It is a terrible thing to watch your pet go from vibrant and fun to lethargic and sad.

The vet suggested we might put him down today. We are trying something else first. But I suppose this is the last measure. He had hook worms- which he must have puked his medicine, so he still had them. Maybe just maybe he will make it now that they gave him an injection instead. he also was given fluids today.

Love on your animals and embrace all their annoying behaviors. This is so heart breaking. And please, take note of all those deadly plants. No matter how pretty they are-

We had something like that happen to one of our pets that just kept throwing up. After one week in the animal hospital and every anti-nasuea medicine they had, they finally got ahold of a specialty anti naseau medicine at Barry Veterinary that worked (they were the only vet around that had it) and three days later I was able to bring our dog home. They even did exploratory surgery thinking that maybe she ate something and found nothing. They still don't know what caused it, but were leaning towards pancreatitis.

I will call Barry then... he has been so playful since we got home from the vet.
