The prayers and love of Sowal make miracles!
We got very good news today. One measure of heart function is the ejection factor (EF) which measures the amount of blood pushed out of the left ventricle. Normal is about 55% and we were originally told that it had dropped to 20% so he had lost over half his heart function when he went into heart failure. They took another test yesterday and we found out today that it had actually INCREASED to 35%. The cardiologist said that it is possible that the he will gain back even more function.
Also they took another theophylline level.
10-20 could be toxic in a man his age.
When he had the failure, it's been estimated to be
110!
It's now down to
2 and as the theophylline levels go down, we're hoping that the heart will gain back more strength.
They can find no physiological reason for the heart failure so it's looking like it was entirely due to the drug overdose.
It gets better.
He's done with the VA!
We are getting him some of the best doctors in the area so hopefully mistakes as blatent as this won't happen again.
They are doing a couple of more tests in the morning and we're hoping that he will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow and he may even be able to go back to work in a week or two.
I swear, he's one of the luckiest people I know. The overdose could have easily caused coma or death.
Thank you to everyone for their prayers and love. I don't know if would be turning out the same without them
I'm gonna help my mom get the house cleaned up and get rid of the plethora of drugs that the VA has given him and then I'll be home. See you all soon!
Love, Cork
