My dad had a double bypass back in 1982 and mom had a quadruple a few years after that. She's 84 and going strong!. Even after her heart attack in October. Doc's threw in a few stents, all is well.

I'm sure your dad will be fine. I'm sending out lots of positive thoughts!

SoWal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks all!

We'll know more beginning of next week. They head to the Mayo Clinic sunday.

If his lungs were not in the shape they are DK, it would be fairly cut and dry. But that is the hurdle right now, not knowing if his lungs will take the surgery.

I will keep "Cork" up on all your thoughts!!!

Thanks to all, keep the good cheer coming!!!!:clap:

Evening all!

Well, just got the call from Mom & Cork, they have been at the Dr's all day with Pop waiting results from a Heart Cath. Results were not favorable.:sosad:

Pop is in urgent need of a Double Bypass, possibly triple.

They are headed to Mayo this weekend to pull the pulminary records to see how his lungs would hold up for surgery. Evidently, there is a number that gives the Dr's a range, and tells them where the lungs stand. So he has a specific number he wants before he preps Pop for Open Heart surgery. Two valves are approximatly 90 - 95% blocked, I don't recall what the third was.
So after Mayo they will then talk with a Pulminary specialist here, and the Heart Surgeon then
they will be able to make a more informed decision. The alternitive would be to put stints in.

We have been through a heck of a time with him this year, and poor cork, has truly gone through and seen alot...

So Please continue the prayers, the next week or so will be quite trying us as a family.

We truly appreciate your prayers,

Thank you baby for reaching out to all my family at sowal for me. I love you and I love them. You haven't even begun to understand the family that you are becoming a part of by moving to sowal. You did a great job on explaining daddy's deal. I have been literally in shock since we heard about the blockage cause there was absolutely no indicators other than the most recent CHF event which is the only reason it was discovered and it actually took 3 cardiologists before we got one to even check for blockage with the cardiac cath.

A little more info. Dad needs a quadruple bypass and has had significant death of part of his heart. The arteries that need repaired are those that supply blood to his heart only so we need to figure out something to increase the flow to the parts of the heart that are still alive. His cholesterol and triglycerides are normal and it seems that there's a constriction. We don't know the cause and don't know if we ever will but other than plaque it appears that vessel constriction can also occur from stress, smoking and/or stimulant drugs like the breathing meds that he's been on most of his life (and caffeine of course).

There's 2 choices: Stents which is a very minor procedure or Open Heart Surgery which is a major surgery.

  • The Open Heart would completely bypass the constricted vessels and give him complete blood flow to the live parts of the heart. The risks are great and we don't even know if he's a candidate with his lung problems.
  • Stents are may or may not provide enough blood flow to the heart but is an easy fix. Problem is that with the left ventricular damage, it's not the recommended choice
There's much to get cleared up yet so that we can make a decision. We are booked solid this coming week with doctors appointments and will have a much better idea at the end of the week.

We need some prayers here for sure and they are soooo appreciated. I feel so terrible that I wasn't there for Kenny or Billy but I hope they both know that I'm just a phone call away if they need me.

Love all of you guys and can't wait to get a big fat hug from all of you.
