Thanks for the ideas and kind words. This is happening more frequently. IT is extremely intense, then seems to go away. Unfortunately I have not been keeping track. While she is 21, things like that go right by her.:dunno:

My goal for today is to get her to make a dr. appt. We will see how that goes, but I can be quite persistent. My husband says that NO ONE beats a dead horse better than I do...:lol: She will get many texts and emails until I hear of an appt!!!

I've had these and one of my friends in high school had them. The first treatment will probably be medication of some sort (it may be birth control pills- can't remember) to shrink it if it's large. If that doesn't work, I think they can remove it if it's large through laproscopy??? They are pretty painful when you move a certain way and only be the size of a pea. My friend had one the size of a softball:eek: Get her to a Dr. soon. Some women are just prone to these, but they can be controlled.

I worked for a GYN years ago. Ovarian cysts are pretty common, but some can rupture. This is when it gets dangerous and life threatening. Do make sure she gets to a doctor to determine treatment!

Anything causing vomiting that is not food related is an automatic dr's visit!!!

Any monthly female issues that can't be controlled (to a level of minor discomfort) w/ OTC pain meds, applied heat, and exercise also warrant a dr's visit.

Hope she feels better!

As a Mom with no direct experience with ovarian cysts let me suggest to you and your girls a source of information that has been invaluable to me personally. I have a chronic medical condition and stumbled on a site Health Vault Search. I immediately found a description of this condition and found references to to other sources of infomation. If you have any access to your older daughter's MD, they maybe able to furnish additional resources. What I have learned is that ovarian cysts are very common condition. I would have my daughter get into see her OBGYN for assessment. and F/U. I do remember the frustration and fear of recieving a long distance call from my daughter in tears and pain. Is there anything at your daughter's college that would be a reasonable resouce for you...a substitute Mom, as it were. Is there a dorm mother, etc. What about campus health care? Does your family doctor have any contacts in the college town? They might be able to get her in to see someone ASAP and run interference for you...Good luck Mom....

Welcome jensieblue!

Good suggestions! I will give my dr. a call and look for references. The campus health clinic is not too great. They kept telling my oldest she had a tubal pregnancy when it was a 9 cm ovarian cyst!:yikes She only goes when it is a sinus infection or something similar.

She has an appt. next week when she comes home for Thanksgiving. She tried to make one there, but issues with being a new patient. If it happens again, I told her to go to the ER. Not many many other options.

I will check out the website. Information always makes me calmer....I dislike the unknown.

Hang in there Mom...I can relate to your probs with campus health care. My college freshman year was '66; went to campus health where I was told I had mono. Called my Mom who came to get me. The head doc at the campus facility got mad that my Mom was taking me home telling her that I should stay in the infirm and he would keep me walking until I got well. Like anything, some are good and some are not so good. I will be sending good thoughts your way...Good Luck

My only experience with cysts is from many years of infertility treatments with Clomid and with Pergonal which would cause cysts to appear and blow up like balloons (not to mention bruising and pain so bad that it hurt to sit down). After having no successful pregnancies from all of the Clomid and Pergonal and in vitro, my doctor finally told me he would stop taking our money. Beach Jacket was a miracle baby -- I wasn't on any infertility drugs when she was conceived.

I have recently been followed up with ultasounds and CA-125 tests. Of course, in the most recent journals the news is that no test is definitive regarding screening for ovarian cancer -- ladies, we are screwed ... literally and figuratively.:bang:

You are right. We are screwed since there is no good source of screening for ovarian cancer. We cannot win.
