I've finally decided on a college and I feel 100% better about my future. Now I just have to get used to the Tampa area... which could take a bit of time. It's no SoWal: more than 2 main roads. I'm SO lost. :rotfl:
I love Tampa...drive through there all the time on my way to St Pete...where my sis lives. I was born in St. Pete...so I love the area...it is in my blood! As a young person...you will enjoy all that the area has to offer!!!!! The gulf is not as beautiful...but there is so much to do and experience. My son has decided to go to the Citadel in Charleston.....

Well, first off... I most definitely babysit.

I've been going to small schools since Pre-K. I've always had a close personal relationship with most of my teachers and classmates. I used to think I wanted to be anonymous and just do my own thing, so I had my heart set on UF for a while. But then I discovered UT, and it made me realize that a smaller atmosphere is what I'm familiar and comfortable with. If it's not broke, don't fix it, right? UT wasn't TOO big, but it wasn't TOO small, either. Best of both worlds. From what I've seen and heard, it has a pretty good reputation. Plus, it was right in the middle of a city, which I LOVE, since I'm a native New Yorker. Basically, I had a small school atmosphere submerged in a big city atmosphere. What more could I possibly want in a school??:dunno:

Thanks so much TFT!! I'd LOVE to hear more. I'm in town until Tuesday morning exploring. I think I'm going into Ybor City tomorrow to look around. I'd appreciate any and all information you can give me!

Thank you, everyone! I'm really excited, and all of your words of encouragement are making me even more excited!!

Where can I find them?

 Hi Kase ... got distracted from this thread ... you know, by those three children you can come babysit in the fall. :D

It really sounds like UT is a great place for you. It seems like a lot of UT students are from New York, and many of them are there because they like a small campus, so you should fit in just fine!

Biffster goes on and on about those Mel's hot dogs, but I can't vouch. Haven't had a hot dog since I was 5. Here is Mel's website. It is by Busch Gardens:

I do know more about CDBs! It is an old time Italian spot, except they've had a number of locations all over. There is one in north Tampa near USF. There is also a new one in South Tampa (or SoTamp, as jdarg calls it). That is closer to UT. But still not exactly next door.

It is hard to give advice because there are so many bars and nightspots, and I'm not sure which ones welcome the 18-20 crowd. I don't want your parents to think I am am sending you to bars. But you've already discovered Ybor. Channelside is pretty funn -- there is a lot to do there and it's just southwest of Ybor.

International Plaza is a great place to shop (Nordstrom, etc). There are a large number of assorted hangouts near UT, and downtown Tampa is starting to come together w/ more retail and restaurants. The Super Bowl is coming next year. You will not lack for things to do!!

How does one fall asleep and still correctly type?

Random thought for this morning -- Damn, it's cold. Where did the nice weather sneak off to?
