I am sure the imported was a lot cheaper.
Dogs and kitties here have been affected. An 8 month old cat! It is so sad.
We just do dry kibble food: Canidae (dog) and Felidae (kitty).
And the occasional shrimp.

thankfully we just used the dry too, but it still makes me wonder with all the urinary problems dory had if there wasn't some in the dry food too.

Menu Foods is in Canada. But there are two plants here in the U.S. One in New Jersey, forgot where the other one was. And of course, Canada is going to buy it where they can get it cheaper. Here we have all this wheat grown in states like Kansas and maybe Iowa, and I am sure some states in the south may grow wheat, and they choose to buy it from China. I got some t-bone steak type dog treats and some beggin strip type treats from Drs. Foster and Smith, who are veterinarians, who have an online pet supply and dog health information site. In these big two pound plastic containers. I had opened the bacon strip ones to give them to my already sick dog and inside was a fresh pack with Chinese print on it, and both of these treats have wheat flour in them. Needless to say I called the company to find out where these were manufactured as I want nothing manufactured from China, especially that has wheat flour in it. So they will be going back when I hear from them tomorrow if they cannot tell me where they were manufactured and where the wheat was from they used. I know it wasn't treats they said was affected but I am not taking any chances.

At this point, I think a better list may be a list of safe foods!

I saw Purina and freaked out a bit. I feed my cats that. But it was one particular dog food recalled.
It's strange though. Cats are very finicky, and if a can of food doesn't smell right to them, they don't eat it.

Dog biscuits added to pet food recall
Manufacturer includes broader range of production dates, FDA reports

WASHINGTON - The recall of pet foods and treats contaminated with an industrial chemical expanded Thursday to include dog biscuits made by an Alabama company.

The Food and Drug Administration said Sunshine Mills Inc. is recalling dog biscuits made with imported Chinese wheat gluten. Testing has revealed the wheat gluten, a protein source, was contaminated with melamine, used to make plastics and other industrial products.

Also Thursday, Menu Foods, a major manufacturer of brand- and private-label wet pet foods expanded its original recall to include a broader range of dates, the FDA said. Menu Foods was the first of at least six companies to recall pet foods and treats made with the contaminated ingredient.

The FDA knows of no other pet product companies planning recalls, agency officials told reporters.

Sunshine, of Red Bay, Ala., sells pet foods and treats under its own brands as well as private labels sold by grocery, mass merchant and dollar stores, according to its Web site. A list of recalled products was not immediately available.

Mine have been eating Pedigree since the recall. From their website!!!!!!!

Dog lovers,
We would like you to know that PEDIGREE? Food For Dogs is not a part of the recent nationwide pet food recall initiated by Menu Foods and other companies. The safety of products not involved in the recall was validated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on March 23, 2007. According to the FDA, pet owners should feel confident feeding unrecalled products to their pets. All of our PEDIGREE? products remain a safe, nutritious and delicious way to feed your best friends.

Menu Foods does not make PEDIGREE? dry or wet Food For Dogs and there is no melamine in our wet or dry products.

As dog lovers ourselves, the safety and nutritional quality of our food is our top priority, and you should continue to feel confident feeding our food to your dog.

For details on the recall, contact Menu Foods at 1-866-895-2708, 1-866-463-6738 or visit the company's web site at: www.menufoods.com/recall.

They haven't listed which Sunshine Mills Pet Treats are involved yet, but here's what they make and could be included.
