But I bet the tips will be better in SoWal.
Perhaps, but at $25+/sf, triple net in SoWal, I bet most people opening restaurants may look for cheaper rent in Freeport. In the future, Freeport will definitely have the population to support such establishments.

Also, not everyone is willing to drive 1.5 hours round trip per day to wait tables.

I'm thinking that a lot of big restaurants will be moving in on 98, and that a 4-laned 331 will move people back and forth all hours.

But no doubt a lot of restaurants will be on the 331 corridor also. We've got a lot of higher-priced golf course communities coming into Freeport which will fill up with retirees and such.

Maybe there will also be a lot of townhouses and apartments up there that are semi-affordable. Not to mention the affordable housing planned for east Freeport.

Look how much has changed within the past 4 years. The big restaurants will be coming to SoWal soon as the "Son of 98" and 331 is 4 laned. PF Changs would be a good fit in the Sandestin area on 98. Maybe in Grand BLvd. Our full-time population has increased and will continue as more baby boomers start retiring here justifying more of these big chain restaurants. The real estate people at Publix are smart. Get in early!

SJ is correct Freeport will continue to grow. And will be the next Niceville. Some of us now drive the 20 minutes to Freeport to eat at Nick's on the bay.

The PF Chang's I was in was a giant building. I'm not sure it could do high enough volume year-round in Walton County to justify construction. It would probably work out better in Destin where Bonefish, Outback, etc. seem to have lines out the door even in November.
Exactly! We have a P.F. Changs nearby in Winter Park. I just imagine the same type layout as Luna Del Mar. Last time I ordered their mediocre takeout I saw not one server older than 23-25 years in the place.

Please! Let's not beg for tacky chain restaurants. Can't you get that at home? The lack of this type of eating establishment is an important factor in attracting me to 30-A. I live in a town where all that is available is chain food. If you are what you eat, I'd be junk if I relied on eating out in my town. If you want something simple to eat, for dinner just pick up steamed shrimp at Goatfeathers and get a prewashed salad and corn to boil from Publix. Or for lunch boil a hot dog and serve it with chips, salsa, and Gordo's cheese dip from Publix. Much better that wishing to poo-poo on 30-A with an array of chain restaurants. IMHO.

Michigan but someday in SoWal as well
I agree. No chains, please. But good take-out food that supports small business owners would be more than fine for me. We get take out premade shrimp as well at the local seafood markets and put it on pasta. We also buy premade crab cake in bulk and fry it up at home.
