I feel sorry for people in Texas having somebody like that for a governor. By the way, feel free to feel sorry for us Floridians as well. Oh well, at least we know Perry will never be president, and his religious zeal does nothing but hurt his chances nationwide.

Clearly Texans aren't sorry, he's been in office for a decade. I'd bet this has something to do with the state's good economic record during his tenure.

That is sterotypical BS. Just because someone was lynched a hundred years ago does not mean all Christians today are running around lynching people.

Google Fox's Book of Martyers.

Here's the TX Democratic talking points against Perry's record from their perspective:

http://www.txdemocrats.org/2009/10/05/top-ten-rick-perry-failures/

I so hope we don't have to go through him running, but his wife is encouraging him so you can bet he will.....

.

Comparatively, the state of Texas is doing really well. Why would you want to change the current economic direction of your state? Do you think a democrat can do better, and if so, how? On unemployment for example, what would a democrat do differently? On enticing businesses to the state? Improving the budget situation? Improving education? Please elaborate, I’m really curious.

Wonderful thing about humans, free mind! You can't change everyone's opinion! SoWal is made up of varying peoples of different opinions and cultures.

Huh? Cults maybe, but not cultures. The "cultures" here do NOT vary..much.

Miss Kitty, as a governor generally, how has Perry been? Good, bad, mediocre? (Independent of his occasional call to prayer.)

Sorry so late to respond. I am no Texas political guru. I have voted for Perry in the past. I do know his sister through our children who attended school in Dallas (love her!!!). That said, I can only say that he has done some good things for our state financially and some social things that make me cringe. But he and every other political candidate that uses religion to further their careers and create fear and hate have completely turned me off. I keep asking the question...where is the separation of church and state?

I have found this website (please do your due diligence and let me know!) and found some info on RP and his stance on some issues.

If the taxpayers are paying then I agree with you. In fact, the taxpayers should not be paying for rallies of any kind, period. Rallies are not a legitimate function of government at any level.

I think that is what Rita is trying to get across.

Yes - I actually think IW and I are pretty much in agreement when you take a good look at it. That is probably why all but one of the 49 governors Perry invited turned him down. Either that or they felt it political suicide...:dunno:
.
Miss K - I would likely had voted for Kay Bailey H. if she had gotten through the 3-way primary. imo she would have done a better job, at minimum equal, and I feel sure would have allowed the Rainy Day Fund to have been tapped for education and maybe social service needs. That's somewhere over 90% federal stimulus dollars sitting in that fund the way I understand it.

TX reminds me of Alaska - oil rich and propped up by federal money. (but yet has a governor who would consider seceding?)..
