Mike, We love your videos but please say you found those sandollars bleached and beautiful on the beach and that you did not kill them yourself. Especially after you saying you don't take shells that have been homesteaded!!

PS. Great find on the skull. How amazing!

Loved your turtle skull video. His spirit is certainly with you. Have you found any old shipwrecks, cannon balls? I used to find pieces of one off Deer Lake State Park washed up on the beach between Deer Lake and Eastern Lake. Don't think much of it is left anymore.

Good point. I have never bleeched a sand doll. I did have a brown one in the video and have taken other live sand dollars just to have them as examples. I appreciate Nature but do keep things in perspective.

But I try to make people aware that sand dollars are ALIVE. Many people do not realize that when I speak to them on the beach. One day I met some people on the second sandbar who said, 'Pickings are slim today. Yesterday we found 150.'

I find white sand dollars out there and those are the only ones I collect. But, if I find an especially unique live one, I may take it. I have held in my hand some amazing star fish that I did not bring in because they felt spiritual in my hand. I petted them and fell in love.

I see snails out there with phenomnal color to the shell but don't remove. That's why teh shells I have are sometimes not as bright and polished as they could be.

But you know, I've even left some fantastic shells that just had little crabs beneath them. Everything out there is used in one way or another so it could be argued that nothing should be removed.

But thanks so much for pointing this out. I LOVE Nature and try my best to be a good steward.

I'd forgotten about that. Last year I found an old boat around there, very near shore. I haven't been back to it. But that is very interesting. I'd like to see more wreck type stuff. I've seen stairs to homes, cinder blocks, ropes, crab trabs and various other human belingings, but wrecks seem so much more intriguing. I'd love to be filled in on some more examples.

I may head out to the one I know by Deer Lake when the water clears. Thanks for the post.

My Mother and Uncle found a Spanish suit of armour over near eastern lake in the 1950's. Some of it is in the Indian museum in FWB. They were told by the experts who examined it that it was made around the year 1100. And left in the dunes in the 1500's. Suits of armour were worn for hundreds of years back then. I have also been told a couple found a bar of silver over near dear lake in the 1920's on the beach. Also been told by a reliable person that after a hurricane in the 1950's he found a wreck in the gulf and could see about 10 cannons on the bottom. This was over near eastern lake. So who knows could be a treasure around somewhere. A treasure hunter named Ross lived here for about 5 yrs. in the 1950's. He looked a lot but I don't think he ever found anything.

Thanks StantheMan. I absolutely love hearing about things like this. It keeps wonderment in my life. Childlike in awe. It is killing me not to be in the Gulf right now because of a lack of clairty and it may take a few more days for it to be right.

I found a neat book in the Destin Library about Pirate markings found on trees etc. that designated where to go to uncover hidden items. Interetsing. When I was a boy the Timex commercials were popular, "Takes a licking and keeps on Ticking." One day I went and buried my watch so as to recover it days later. I think I held out for a day or two before retrieving it, and yes, it was working lol.

But the idea of discovering something is a blessed feeling. Like other things I guess, discovering love, or friendship. Or disocvering a great movie or new recipe. But being out in the ocean or walking trails and being in Nature makes that discovery that much more salient to me. It just stands out in my world.

Anyway, thanks for broadening my videos with your personal knowledge. Very interesting and very appreciated.

I believe this is the skull of a Green turtle

Great video Mike.
I did a little research and am fairly certain you have the skull of a Chelonia Mydas or Green Turtle.
Great find!
