Something For Teens?

Here's something teens seem to like doing. Get them some big flashlights for cruising the beach at night. Make sure they have a cell phone and that they travel in groups. Actually when my daughter was in her early to mid teens, she and her friends liked taking a net to the beach and catching sand crabs at night.

Just please don't let them do this in late summer - early Fall - when the turtles are hatching there should be no lights on the beach to confuse the little guys trying to make there way to the water. This goes for gulf front homes as well - keep those outside lights off please.

Here is a fact I recently learned - turtles in our area take longer to hatch - because of the white sand - it doesn't get as hot and therefore the turtles take longer to hatch than if on a brown beach. Plus because of the temperatue - white sand - our area produces more males than females.
