not wise, but just common sense! I can identify with iwish, can't you all? I've found myself in a place (more than once) where I just can't feel motivated to do what I know I need to do for myself. It will pass.

Iwish - go get a facial or pedicure or massage! do something nice for you.

oh, for sure I can identify. I've been in that place for a few months now.

Hang in there, IWIWT! I'll be so sad when our kids move on (though I'm fantasizing about going to SoWal more then), but think of this as time to spoil yourself and "love yourself" by focusing on good health! Easier said than done, of course. But the phrase "love yourself" really resonated with me (I read it in Oprah magazine) and it gets me to the trainer and exercising. I see that time exercising as time that's all about me rather than about taking care of others. Watching the diet is a bit harder I think, but worth it. So, remember that these months are "all about you".

Paula... that is so true! I forgot that I am a person as I have spent the last 27 years "taking care" of others. Not that I regret any of it, it will take a while to retrain my line of thinking. But you are so right....the next 4 months will be about ME!

Toots- Thanks for the words. It will pass, hopefully, sooner than later. I need to decide what treat I would enjoy...other than food. I hate to admit, but I have never had a real massage...although I enjoy a good back rub. Maybe a facial...how does one know what to ask for?? There seem to ba a lot of choices.

Well, I was told to come over here and give my story. I have 3 resolutions for the New Year and it's tough. One thing is hard enough, let alone 3 all having to do with health!
1. Quit Smoking!
2. Lose 15 pounds
3. Quit drinking.....so much
I've smoked a pack and a half a day for the past 5 years since I was 20. I've gained 20 pounds in the past 4 years and now weigh 205. Oh, and I drank like a fish! :D
Right now I'm on day 19 without a smoke and the cravings have really subsided. It is Extremely hard during the first couple of weeks. The problem I found was that I had terrible cravings to eat. I had always heard that you gain weight when you quit smoking and I now understand why. I did an excellent job of fighting those urges by the way.

I've started working out and eating right to lose weight. I've studied this a lot over the years and fully understand how to lose weight. Self motivation is a very hard thing at times. I'll give you guys a few things that I eat throughout the day and my workout routine.
Breakfast:
1. Oatmeal and a fresh smoothie. I use rasberries, blueberries, blackberries, bananas, apples, non-fat plain yoghurt, and skim milk. Add a couple ice cubes and blend.
2. 3 eggs (your choice), sliced peaches w/ cottage cheese, skim milk
Lunch:
1. Turkey sandwich on whole wheat. I add spinach leaves, tomato, pickles, and mustard. Subway is a good place to go if you're out.
2. Spinach salad w/ pan seared chicken. Add any fresh vegetables. Light dressing.
Dinner:
1. Pan seared tuna with steam brocolli and carrots.
2. Stir fry with chicken.
Make sure you drink plenty of water.....Warning: Do not exceed 2 gallons in 30 minutes!! I drink around 6 pints a day.
Avoid soft drinks like the plague!
Workout routine:
I do about 20 minutes of weights and 30-45 minutes of cardio at the gym 5-6 days a week. Make sure you don't overtrain your muscles. Give muscle groups time to recover before training again.
Hope this helps someone.

:clap_1: Congrats all on your progress!

Welcome to SoWell, Josh. :clap_1: Sounds like you have a great routine. And congrats on quitting smoking. I can only imagine how tough it is to do so.

As for me, I've been serious about working out/getting on the treadmill for 9 days now and so far so good. I've seen my trainer 3 times (every Tuesday/Thursday is the routine) and we do weights in particular. Then I walk fast on the treadmill for at least 3 of the other days and do weights on one of the weekend days. Boy, she works me so hard and I NEVER would do half of what I do when I'm with her. I told her that everything I do is for health rather than vanity, except that I want her to help me get my vanity beach arms by this summer. We'll see how she does with that! She'll be my "Patron Saint of Beach Arms" is she can help me accomplish this!

Remember this thread? I've been bad, but haven't forgotten my ultimate goal of health. Got the trip coming up, and let's face it, I'll be bad on that too. But, the ciggies are tastin' pretty bad these days, so maybe there's hope on that front. Will tackle the eating healthy part when I return. Let us now hear from the good girls. (And, the other bad ones, too!)
