When Mr. IBD and I waited tables, long ago, we always could tell the type of tip we were getting when customers ordered.....
~Well done prime rib,
~no au juis (sp?)( b/c they thought it was undercooked),
~had some sort of steak sauce all over their steak
~a salad with 1000 island dressing. (sorry Skunky, I know you love it);-)
DISCLAIMER.....This is all from my observations of waiting tables many many many Friday and Saturday nights in Dothan Alabama. Please do not jump on me b/c you think I am saying if you use steak sauce, like your steak well done or if you like 1000 island dressing that you are a bad tipper. hmmmmmmm, did I cover everything (EXCEPT MY STEAK THAT IS )
I for one can not understand why a person would order a nice steak in a nice steak house and cover the flavor of the beef. If they want to do that go to Golden Corrals all you can eat steak on Friday nights...

Yes, it is sad. Some people just get so offended....
i use heinz 57 at the waffle house.
I like medium well. But I live outside the city limits and I drove a pickup truck for a long time. I can also change my own oil and roof my own house. All this to say that if I have the money to buy a steak at the end of a long day, I don't want it to bleed on me.
The only time I use A-1 is when my little nephew Chesley tells me that I HAVE to try it on my chicken strips or pork chop or potato salad or whatever we're eating. He likes it like most kids like ketchup.

I like steak sauce on good steaks, though my idea of steak sauce is a demi glaze, not A-1.
