I am posting this with permission of my friend Susan. Who's in SoWal Thursday and going for green drinks?!

Hello, Friends --

It's my pleasure to forward this message from my friends and colleagues, Chandra Hartman and Janice Hatfield. Last fall, Chandra was a presenter, and Janice a co-host at our "It's Easy Being Green" seminar here in Pt. Washington. Along with J.B. Wiggins, Chandra and Janice have been cheerfully promoting the growth of a fun, informal, non-hierarchical monthly gathering of folks interested in all things green, based on the concept explained in more detail at www.greendrinks.org. You'll also find more informatin at Chandra's blog, http://sustainingsowal.wordpress.com.

I wish I could take credit for this, but all I did was plant the idea at the seminar, hoping someone would get a "green drinks" group going. Janice, J.B. and Chandra took up the challenge in fine style -- and now are trying out a SWELL new name. Please pass along this information to anyone you know who might have an interest, and e-mail Chandra (her e-addy is below) if you want to be added to her SWELL e-list.

Hope to see you at The Larder next Thursday --

If you read the article in the link, sustainingsowal.com, you will discover that we enjoyed a very unique luncheon last week -- a potluck of locally grown/caught/killed and, or, organic food. We will have another one in mid-July. The group consist of about 15 people right now, and we would like to keep it small for a while, but if anyone is serious about eating locally, shoot me a pm and I'll slip you an invitation to the next luncheon.

Hello everyone,

I hope your summers are off to a great start and filled with lots of time with family and friends. Thursday, June 21st marks the summer solstice and the first official day of summer. To mark the occassion and continue our efforts to lead South Walton toward a greener future, we'll be hosting another Green Meets that evening at Larder, 6:00 pm. Please join us for an evening of great food, drink and conversation. As part of the evening, Arix Zalace & Jen Kuntz will give a brief presentation of the new Blue Bag program that is well under way in SoWal.

Previously we've called this gathering of people, the South Walton Green Meet. In light of the saturated, butchered and watered down usage of the words "green" and "sustainable", we've decided to try out a new name S.W.E.L.L., South Walton Environmental and Low-impact Living. Hmmm...that could be swell, as in "We had a swell time at the beach", or think waves, or a growing gathering of people. Only time will tell if it will stick.
If you find yourself interested in the following things, join us:
? Sustainable land development and construction
? Harmonious living with the earth and others
? Creation and preservation of beauty
? Socially conscious action
? Fascinating conversation
? Excellent food and drink

Unfortunately, we are looking for an alternate location for this Thursday and will keep everyone posted as soon as we have something lined up. Apparently, The Larder is closing and Thursday is their last night, which they'll be spending with friends and family. We're sad to see them go.

:sosad:

Thanks for posting and please let us know when you have new blog entries and so forth.

Do you know if the larder space has been taken? I wouldn't be suprised if Design takes it for expansion.

We have a location. Woohoo!! Bryan & Stacy Pritchett, owners of Pizza By the Sea would love to have us that evening. Please spread the word and I'll be updating the e-mails I've sent to reflect the changes.

Jack S~

For those of us not quite in the loop, could you tell us more about the "water people" and a paddle out? Maybe someone from Surfrider would like to host or speak at one of the future SWELL gatherings.

I thought Larder was closing next Thursday.

On a side note, if anyone has ever seen the 100-mile suit, I know of no better argument for globalization. Not sure why this group wants to keep the rest of the world in poverty, but that's your business.
