Wow. thanks very much TFT. I will check these places out. It is our anniversary, but we were kinda saving the big bucks for our summer trip, so the Hampton might be our best bet.

You are welcome! Sounds like funn. Let me know if you are in need of any other info and I will try to help.

There's the Sirata and Tradewinds, both on St. Pete Beach. Tradewinds is very nice and I'm pretty sure they have suites.

Tradewinds is cool...and in a very good spot..Kurt's and my sis lives in St. Pete...little secret...we were all born there

We live here in St.Pete and always spend our spring break camping at Ft.DeSoto county park.It is full of families with kids from newborn to late teens. There is so much to do in the area that we are never bored. When we stay at the beach it is at the Coral Reef Resort...the pool is a favorite attractor...teens playing football in the pool is a constant. The teens can also stroll the beach in either direction to meet others satying at neighboring hotels.AAA can assist you in finding a 2-bedroom that meets your needs, plus the St.Pete beach,Passagrille beach,Treasure Island Beach, and Mederia Beach chambers of commerce will be glad to mail you LOTS of info on area hotels!

Thanks Optimama for the nice memory- we visited Ft. DeSoto many many times when I was a kid. My grandparents had a house in Belleair Beach and we were down there alot- and Dad's favorite beach was the Ft. DeSoto, so instead of walking to the local beach, we would pack up the car and head further south!

Ft.DeSoto is one of the most beautiful beaches in the nation. When we camp,I must confess it is not "primitve camping".I bring fans/heaters (depending on the forecast),TV,Xbox, air mattresses...everything but the kitchen sink! My girlfriend and I get sites side by side and usually have 4-8 teens running in and out of the sites. They fish, play football and baseball, ride bikes, and we take them to St.Pete beach,or out to the beach there at Ft.Desoto.They do have an occasional attack of teen boredom...but it never lasts too long!
To Franny...Just need to clarify that the Coral Reef beach resort was a hotel (really crappy) and relatively nice time-share condos(which we have one). The hotel is closed awaiting to be torn down and a new resort built (YEA!!).The condo's are still going strong and available for renting. They have some really nice BIG 2-bedroom units. The huge lagoon style pool is a favorite and I assume will be open until construction of the new hotel starts.I would guess it would close temprarily then. The condo's also have a heated pool, and 3 hot tubs. Our kids love it!

When Kurt and I were born there it was called MOUND PARK...the old hospital is still there, but the newer bayfront was built all around it.

Sorry for the hijack, Franny, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a hotel in downtown St Petersburg? We are giving very serious thought to celebrating our anniversary with a little trip to the Tampa Blues Festival in early May. We don't need anything fancyschmancy, but I wouldn't mind a pool. Sometimes it's kinda hard to research on the 'net because places do not always live up to what you see on a little screen.

The downtown area of St.Pete has many wonderful bread and breakfast spots. They are all part of the B&B association.AAA can give you the info.Look early as eveything fills up fast. The Ponce DeLeon downtown is also another affordable hotel..and very old-school...quite the spot for sailors attending regattas.
