We tried going to the new Target last Thursday but it was too far away! We were told it's "just down the street from Silver Sands" and we kept driving and driving and by the time we reached the Home Depot on 98, we thought for sure that we'd made a mistake and took the wrong road! It was getting kind of late in the evening, so we picked up a few things at Home Depot just before it closed. They told us Target was just a little bit further down the road but it was too late for us to check it out so we never did get there. :sosad:

For people on 30-A, the new Target might be closer than the one in PCB, but it's still a heck of a drive! :dunno:

Oh, forgot to add, when I met Sueshore for lunch at Watercolor, she was wearing a top from "Tar-ghay" and she looked Tres Chic, and I'm not talking Cracker. :clap_1:

I agree with Kurt about driving multi-miles to save less than a dollar. We try to avoid U.S. 98 except arrival and departure at VPS Airport. Only a very, very good friend or a hit man would meet you at the airport during the rush hours (practically anytime of day, it seems). The shuttle service is quite good and very convenient, although their prices have climbed steeply.

For household items, we swear by Bed Bath & Beyond. There is one in Destin where you turn for the Mid-bay Bridge, but I have always had better luck on their Web site. Delivery saves you all those tempting pick-up items that you really don't need. For meats and seafood, we really like Carousel Market just east of Panama City Beach---best steaks I have ever had. We ask relatives to pick them up on their way down. But I will be curious to see Whole Foods, which we have here. Does anyone know where it will be located? The new Publix does it for us on most food items and we like Goatfeathers Market for seafood. Miss the bakery at Grayton terribly.

I love to shop at Target once in a while and browse, and leave with all the great crap I had no idea I needed... way better than Walmart. But still a waste of time for the most part since I end up going from one end to the other and in circles until I have to leave (with all my new crap) because my feet are killing me.

It's just a lot more interesting than internet shopping! But not very efficient...

You are so right. I usually stop in for a few things and come out with a cartload. . We did this last night as a matter of fact. I bought a bat costume for my dog! My husband was dying. They have a whole section now of dog clothing...not costumes, actual dresses, rain slickers and trench coats...too funny. Just what every dog needs right?

There's a sign up for the new grocery store that's going to show up next to Destin Home Depot- not a Whole Foods, but something called Fresh Market- http://www.freshmarket.com/index.htm which still sounds like it has interesting possibilities. I'm not familiar with the chain. Can anyone tell me about it?

We visit freshmarket when we visit the in-law's in Asheville. We really like it. Produce is wonderful. Meat dept. is really great. Plenty of organic choices throughout the store. Wine selection is remarkable. Coffee's galore. There again a little pricey but worth a trip for sure!!!!!

I missed this thread first time around (no laptop yet)! I agree Mermaid...I kept driving and driving...but it was worth ONE trip! Got me some more fashion threads...TARGET CHIC!!! Why is it that when you are in Destin, you can't wait to get back to 30-A??? I know, silly question...

I would think one of these "upscale" grocery stores would do great business down here. But, I am just thankful for our Publix!
