Yikes! I need to get out more! I've read all the posts here and have a few questons.

1) Could someone actually be going to one of these tea parties to protest something other than Mr. Obama? Like, maybe, the CONGRESS? :dunno:

2) Do all card carrying Democrats smile when they pay their income taxes? Do they voluntarily send more than they owe for the government to use at their discretion?

3) This is a tough one....I would LOVE to hear from a card carrying Democrat that is in the top 5 % of wage earners and have them explain to me why sending more $ to Washington will help the people in this country that really need it. I would welcome your PMs, as it is really a confidential matter.

I will tell you one good outcome from this shift and cleansing of our country...Mr. K and I had a great conversation last night about where to use our charitable monies. For us, one of the most gratifying byproducts of our good fortune is to give to so many wonderful and dynamic charities. I have stated before, that if we could be responsible for giving any tax monies from a higher tax away to charity, it would be a no brainer and we could smile while we wrote those checks!!!

For now, I continue to have faith in my President. I pray he can help this country find a balance.

No one enjoys paying taxes, but we recognize taxes are the price we pay for civilization. I have no problem with conservative people who are upset about they're taxes getting involved with the government -- I just think this Tea Party stuff is a futile and unproductive distraction.

As far as what it's protesting -- Congress or spending over the last few years, for example -- that is not the message enclosed with your tea bag -- GOP.com: Tea Party

MY tea bag? I ain't got no tea bag...and I ain't got no party at this time. ;-) Just asking questions.

P.S. I am happy to pay taxes to live in this great country of ours. I am NOT happy about the wasteful spending of a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Independent, or Other politician. I haven't read all this info about the Tea Parties, but, IMO, it sounds better than those celebrity types saying they are moving out of the country if another Republican gets voted into office.

I am still hopeful for common ground.

As am I, and I hope all this energy expended on the inappropriately named Tea Parties is channeled into something more productive in the future.

And I was using that "YOUR" in a very general sense. I hoped to demonstrate through the link that the Republican Party is trying to claim ownership of the movement and direct the anger towards the Democratic leadership, rather than actually looking at policy changes.

BINGO! I agree that this "anger" is counterproductive and misdirected. But, in the end, because of the freedoms we enjoy in this country, they will have their parties, get the media attention they want and still write the checks to the IRS. :D

You know, we could go have a civilized tea party at a local coffee house. Call me. ;-)

Punzy, good points about the Boston Tea Party. In today's world, the Founding Fathers of the United States of America would be sent to Gitmo to be held as terrorists and traitors.

While I applaud any grassroots efforts for Americans to vocalize their concerns with government and spending, I am curious-- where were these people while Bush was sending trillions to Iraq for rebuilding and our own schools and infrastructure were falling apart? Just sayin. I'd also be willing to bet that most of the people who are attending also qualified for the recovery rebate credit on their tax returns. Perhaps instead of wasting tea bags on the ground, they could all be inundating the IRS with returned checks inside those tea bags.

The original poster here did not mention "protest" and this is in the events and activities forum.
If this kind of thing isn't your cup of "tea" :D the political forum would seem to be the more appropriate place to talk about politics, IMHO.

Sorry, I didn't look to see what Forum it had been posted in - I just assumed that a national politic protest was a political topic ................. and I thought it was dumb before I found out it was a partisan issue - you'll note none of my comments reference a political party, just the idea of a tea party.
