Right here!
I support their right to voice their opinions, but where were they last year, or 4 years ago? They are complaining about taxation rates that were implemented under Bush and a Republican congress. Complaining now seems a little late.

Are they protesting possible future income tax increases? Bush (and the Republican congress) implemented a tax break for the wealthiest that included an expiration date. It's about to expire. Obama plans to let that expire. The tax break will stop for the top earners and the tax rate will go back to previous levels that were paid years ago. This is not a new tax, he's not raising it by going to Congress and asking for an increase. I believe he may well have to increase taxes across the board before this is over or our children will have to learn to speak Chinese.

Don't get me wrong. I don't like paying for all the programs and decisions the governent makes. I'm a pay as I go conservative spender. I'm upset that I paid for Social Security, but will never see it. I hate that wasteful spending has hurt our country. Many people don't like paying for "socialist" programs like Social Security or Medicare. Yet they'll certainly accept it. I didn't support the invasion of Iraq, yet paid taxes with a hopeful mindset that at least my money may help make our troops safer.

Sadly we don't get to pick and choose how they spend our money. Complain if you need to. Be involved and be heard. We still live in a wonderful country and I'll pay my taxes with as little angst as possible and drink my sweet tea with a little lemon. Carry on, I'm trying to control my blood pressure.

Small correction - Bush implemented major tax breaks for all income groups, and Obama is going to let only a select few of those expire, the rest he will keep. If you like I can post a graph that clearly shows this.

Do you have a graph explaining the term..."angry white men"? :rotfl:

Tea Party for South Walton County. This will be held at the South Walton Court House Annex. Wednesday, Tax Day, April 15th from 5pm til 8pm.

This is for everyone. Lets show the law makers in Washington DC that we do not like what they are doing to the great country of ours.

Hope to see you there.

Let's get back to Beach Ho's orignal thread--anyone attend the one in Walton County? I couldn't make it :)wave:). Any pics? What was the crowd count? Beach-Ho? ..anyone?

[PS: I am coming out of the closet to say I am an angry white man, over 50, and I am just not gonna take it anymore!]

Can we talk about these "angry white men" I keep reading about here? It seems to be a reoccuring theme with some. Is that what some of you (you know who you are :D) call Republicans?

Another question...was that the top 5% of wage earners out and about at the tea parties, yesterday?
yes and most likely no

Thanks for the clairfication. But don't forget the depth of the tax break for those few I was referring to. A 2004 Congressional study found Bush's tax cuts favored the wealthiest taxpayer and showed the larger burden was shifted to the middle class. The top 1% of taxpayers saw a decline of 19% in their tax burden. While the middle 20% of the taxpaying population saw a decline of only 4%. Obamas action will shift it back. But it won't be permanent. This back and forth of the tax burden isn't new.

That's because under Clinton the top 5% were burdended with paying around 65% of all the revenue the federal government took in, while middle income (top 26% to 50% of earners) paid far less - around 15%. Bush pushed the top 5% burden down to around 61%, while also decreasing the middle class contribution levels to around 10%. The top 25% of earners currently foot the bill for 87% of all federal revenue the government takes in, a vast majority of which benefits the lower 75%!

I know a lot of republicans and democrats (this mainly due to the way one felt upon registering to vote and being given only two options). I know a handful of professed independents/libertarians.

I know absolutely no one claiming racism in these Tea Parties. This one is news to me.
