So nobody thinks a steady diet of:

Republicans are racist
McCain-Palin-Klan rallies (a bit on the front page of today's dailykos)
Bush hates black people
Republicans want to jail black people
Republicans are ok with dragging black people behind trucks
Republicans/McCain want to disenfranchise black people

could have played even a minor role in the Pittsburgh thuggery? Not a bit? Carving a letter in somebody's face isn't a random act of violence, it is an act of rage, a hate crime, and probably the result of many years of political hate speech spewed to dredge votes. Sick.

I don't know, Skunky. Maybe there is something to what you are saying. But let's not forget-

Utterances like "Bush hates black people" wouldn't have been as powerful/damning (and credible) were it not for the poor handling of Katrina (think "Good Job, Brownie")...

Bungling doesn't equate with hate. Period.

Ads pressuring then Texas gov. Bush to pass hate crime legislation that equated his lack of support with blacks 'being dragged away from their future' ran in 2000, a full five years before Katrina.

Bush is apparently so dumb that he has appointed blacks to higher cabinet level positions than any other President even though he hates them.

I must give CNN credit, they have finally posted the Pittsburgh story about 16 hours after it broke. It is still missing from MSNBC. I wonder what the coverage would be if the student was an African-American attacked by McCain supporters who carved something in her face (assuming this thing isn't a hoax).

I understand that the police are administering a polygraph test to the young woman this morning, due to the fact that her story and the evidence don't match. Even the conservative blogger's are all over this as a possible hoax. If true, she deserves our deepest sympathies and we should be outraged. If not, the young lady has issues, that have nothing to do with politics.

I have to admit Mango, the young ladies blogging trail makes this appear even weirder. On her myspace page that got cached before she could shut it down, she said she would die from political assassination.

Also, maybe Skunk can explain why most people who have been punched in the face have blood pool in the eyes from the impact and swelling. I've never seen someone with a black eye, who didn't. I honestly hate to sound suspicious of this young woman, but the physical evidence and the refusal of medical treatment, has me questioning this alleged assault. Also, she was in Little Italy, a predominantly white neighborhood and across the street from a cop bar and nothing is on video from the bank. My last question is why a B and not an O?

Agreed that the media messages are polarizing, misleading and cross the line. Both sides need to stop...

But I think that's a little far fetched (and beyond speculative) to blame political messages for shaping this distrurbed person's distorted view of the world and fueling an attack...

Why not blame rap lyrics, graphic and violent video games or SNL skits?

On a more serious note-
poverty, poor education and parenting, drugs are more likely culprits...

Or perhaps there is no external explanation and the guy is just wacko...

The new report from Fox......
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/23/mccain-volunteer-says-mugged-b-carved-face/

"Several inconsistencies" have emerged in the statements made by a John McCain volunteer who claims she was robbed at knife point in Pittsburgh by an attacker who cut a "B" into her face after noticing a McCain bumper sticker on her car.
Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard told FOXNews.com on Friday that Ashley Todd, 20, says she was groped by a robber and lost consciousness during Wednesday's alleged assault at an ATM. She didn't initially report those details, Richard said.
As for the wound on her cheek, "it's very shallow, it's more of a scratch," Richard said.
Todd took a polygraph test late Thursday or early Friday after police discovered the inconsistencies, Richard said.
After a second interview by police, Todd is not as definitive about the assault, or the motives behind it, Richard said. She's also not sure if the robber took $60 from her as she initially reported but maintains it's missing, Richard said.

How does a rage filled nut carve a perfect B backwards with a knife on someone's face? I'm having a hard time buying it. She would have been kicking and moving about as a result of pain and fear. She did this to herself in a mirror...
