Charlie Rose - Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and Melinda Gates

What a fantastic idea! Giving back to society...
this program announces a new effort from Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet to support even more need around the world.
The Giving Pledge

after all the recent bad news about the oil spill and the economy; the name calling and finger pointing in politics, the media, corporations, and even Sowal...it is refreshing to know there are people with lots of money and expertise who are focusing on giving back...and encouraging others to do the same.

watching this made me feel better.

Very cool. I would love to be in the position to give away that much money! Kinda fun to daydream about---

Me too. So let's play. If we could give away lots of money, what would we do? I'll start:

I would find a way to teach every person in this country to read.

I would find a way to make every school successful in moving every child to their highest potential. Schools where teachers, parents, students, and administrations are all working for the same goals.

I need a LOT of money. My wish of course assumes money can fix everything!

It is quite fun to play titan - one of my plans during the private/public beach debate was to have Scooterbug Inc. buy up lots south of 30-A and donate the land as public beaches/accesses.

Another was to buy several large acreages and have public gardens that donated a certain amount of the produce to the school lunch program.

Scotterbug, there is a program that does that...The Trust for Public Land -- The Trust for Public Land--Conservation and Parks for People.. I worked as a consultant for them for awhile; and then when I moved to Sowal, I brokered the donation/sale of the lot just to the west of the boardwalk at Grayton, through the TPL, so that the County could use it as a part of the Grayton park land; we did another at Lake Stallworth, http://www.tpl.org/tier3_cd.cfm?content_item_id=11360&folder_id=250beachfront that is adjacent to Topsail. There are lots of people in Florida and throughout the country who have done just what you thought about. Cypress Gardens resort was also worked that way when they were going under. It is a great program. Another organization that does similar projects is the Nature Conservancy.

Buy up ever stretch of private property along the south side of scenic 98, raze every building, plant seagrass, and reclassify it all as environmental preserve.
