i'm "B" as well, and the sheet has to be torn where it's perforated, if it's not torn off in a straight line, i can't stand it.

The best answer is "A" of course:

1. It is more visually pleasing, and you can don't have to see the unsightly tears that may occur, which also means you don't have to do a hotel taper fold either to the front!!
2. If you are a one-handed grabber--it is easier to get a good tear /seperation because the "mass' of the roll works in your favor from an engineering standpoint.

3. I am embarrased now to have even tried to explain 1 and 2 above!!!!

Option "A" keeps cats from being able to unwind a roll all over the floor...

Over is right. Under is wrong.

Over-hung paper has the most visible free sheetage. The Under-hung method comes up short, physically and visually and causes errant paper tears that are wasteful.

I found a website that really delved into this quandry. I thought I had too much time on my hands.....

Toilet paper has a natural curve, a way of being that lends itself to certain orientations on the toilet paper spool.* If handled with skill and knowledge, it can provide an abundance of both sanitation and comfort, quilted together in each square of pillowy ply. If handled with clumsy ignorance, or worse, carelessness, it will beset the user with pain, filth, and frustration. Don?t let it end this way, with you curled on the tile floor of the stall, weeping in frustration, covered in wasted papier de toilette. To convince you, we?ve created some diagrams, harnessing the power of SCIENCE, to demonstrate the natural benefits of the over hanging method. First, we examine the optimal viewing benefits of the over hanging method.
Below are examples of the helpful and fruitful over-hung method on the left and the annoying and detrimental under-hung method on the right.

The one-handed tear is a quick maneuver that takes advantage of the perforated squares, allowing your bundle of toilet paper to be liberated with one quick swipe of the arm. This is the foundation of bathroom ease, the cottony bedrock on which enjoyment rests in the restrooms of many nations.
