I think it aptly describes the backseat driving we've been getting from Republicans the last couple of years. Personally I think they should be put in child safety seats.[/QUOTE]

...you know you might be right...a safety seat might be a good idea, especially with Democrats in Washington driving blindfolded!!!!!:sarc:

When Obama doesn't have his speech words flashing on a screen in front of him, he does tend to let his true feelings out. ...Republicans need to be riding in the back and they also are enemies of the Latins....great talk from our leader.

I would very much like to think his thought process in making that statement did not carry the undertone as some have suggested. A simple explanation from him will cure the curiosity. I agree that he is a divisive President and he does have a history of making insensitive comments-remember the Special Olympics statement? So, we can accept this about him for the next two years and tally ho.

Clever, Mango. To some, including me, the statement was inappropriate for the President of the United States to make. He is suppose to be a leader, not a continual campaigner. Where is the uniting factor in this kind of rhetoric? The answer is, there is none.

Right here!
What ever happened to social correctness being an affront on society?? Haven't I heard that recently on another thread?

The President could have said any type of metaphor and had been criticized by some group.

President: "Let's pull up our socks and work" -- The League of Senior Golfers seeks an apology: "The President clearly meant that us Republican Golfers, who are Senior, are lazy, plaid wearing, wealthy elites with droopy socks who golf secretly to plan the destruction of the middle class."

President: "Republicans have been as helpful as a chocolate teapot." --The League of African American Woman's voters demands an apology. "Clearly, the President meant people of color and since as woman eat more chocolate, meant to infer we had big butts"

Rome is burning under the watchful eye of his party and he's out giving speeches calling everyone in the other party the enemy of latinos. I've lost a bit of respect in him. This was an inapropriate comment to make.

I think it's interesting that people who claim not to be racist can see nothing but racist remarks from the president. He's not allowed to make reference to Republicans being left behind, but another black man can make a blanket statement that every Muslim in their "garb" is a terrorist and it's political correctness run a muck.

As far as campaigning, every President has done that. Bush did it right up until 2006 when he could have cleared a room of fundraisers just by entering it.

I still see nothing wrong with his comment - and my guess is that if others were looking at it IN CONTEXT they wouldn't either.

I don't recall Obama saying any such thing? Link?? I know that Dolores Huerta, some kind of honorary figurehead for the schools said that Republicans hate Latinos in a speech to Latinos about proper wages.
But, suddenly everyone forgets comments made by Republicans that weren't the least bit metaphorical and subject to interpretation. Virginia Beach Republican Party Chairman David Bartholomew sent this email joke around:
MY DOG
I went down this morning to sign up my Dog for welfare.
At first the lady said, ?Dogs are not eligible to draw welfare?.
So I explained to her that my Dog is black, unemployed, lazy, can?t speak English and has no frigging clue who his Daddy is.
So she looked in her policy book to see what it takes to qualify?
My Dog gets his first check Friday.
Is this a great country or what?

or, how about South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer,(R) who drew a comparison between government help for poor people and "feeding stray animals" ? who, he noted, "breed." You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that. And so what you've got to do is you've got to curtail that type of behavior. They don't know any better."

I have to agree that we should be expecting better behavior from our elected officials or any type of figurehead. Comments like these only perpetuate the devisiveness, but mistaken metaphors, I can overlook.

"If Latinos sit out the election, instead of saying, ?We?re gonna punish our enemies and we?re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,? if they don?t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it?s gonna be harder . . . "

Who are the enemies of latinos he's referring to here?

But, suddenly everyone forgets comments made by Republicans that weren't the least bit metaphorical and subject to interpretation.

I don't condone comments like these either.
