define "a few" please. how do you compare "racism" with the most powerful christian church in the world?

you never came across discrimination of Catholics, particularly in the Southern United States in your history studies? How about Irish Catholics? I assure you, the Klan and other white, protestant groups hated Catholics....some still do.As far as defining " a few".....well, thats just baiting me. I'm sure there are more good than bad. I find it interesting that no one has any comments about the fact that married clergy do and can exist. And Geo, it is possible to be heterosexual and SACRIFICE one's sex life for Holy Mother Church. St. Paul said it was good, but NOT neccesary. I've got twelve years of Roman AND Greek Catholic schooling....not to mention seminary. Alot of folks went to Catholic School where I'm from.I stand by my post as well.

No one said catholics were never discriminated against. But let's be honest, catholics aren't anywhere near the top of the list of groups who've faced any significant discrimination any time recently.

I would agree (and believe most of us would) that there are more good than bad priests. But that doesn't say much.

I find it interesting that no one has any comments about the fact that married clergy do and can exist.

Why is this interesting? They're not the ones who are sexually repressed or who are molesting young boys- which is what my post was about.

And Geo, it is possible to be heterosexual and SACRIFICE one's sex life for Holy Mother Church.
Yeah, no kidding.
Did I say something to lead you to believe that i do not recognize this?

So does this mean I need to meet you at the school yard after class?

whodat, do you not have an inkling of the origin of the word protestant? the vatican has a history of corruption that is centuries in the making. advocating abstinence to poor uneducated africans would be laughable if this position were not combined with a call to avoid the use of condoms. the vatican is supporting a policy that will cause the death of millions by hiv.

Only an elitist would assume that persons are poor and uneducated because they are in an African country. According to the Central Intellegence Agency. Cameroon enjoys an almost 70% literacy rating. More than some countries in our own hemisphere. With a female literacy rate of 67%, it is well ahead of most african nations and even middle east nations who treat women like second class citizens based on Islamic teaching.

The pope was simply stating what the world already knew. Contraception use goes against Church teaching. His Holiness was advocating sex between husband and wife. Abstinance in all other cases.

Yes, I am aware of what brought about the Protestant reformation. And yes I am aware that there have been sinful and corrupt popes. I have studied Church history:roll:. This fact does'nt make the office of St. Peter anymore evil than corrupt presidents make the presidency.

St. John Chrysostom said (I paraphrase) that when a bishop is sinful and corrupt, he removes himself from communion with the Church. He is a straw scarecrow watching over the flock.

The pope could nomre advocate the use of condoms than he could promiscuity. I hope this position was not news to anyone...:dunno:

Explain to me why he couldn't. Seriously. Who/what is stopping the poppy?

If Benedict wanted to revise the church's outdated stance on contraception so that lives could be saved (because that's what Jesus would do) then he could and he would. History shows that popes can and do change rules even drastically (for better or worse) if they so choose. The vatican isn't a democracy.

Whodat1,
You might want to use other sources than the CIA if you are trying to profile who is dying of AIDS in Africa. I'll give you a hint- it is not the rich, the educated (or the people who use condoms).

Cameroon's literacy rate is completely irrelevent. And you citing this as support for your argument reveals much about your thought process. You're no elitist.

I'm glad to know that you know the mind of God the Son. I was always taught that He cared more about the life to come and the salvation of souls. You're no theologian.:rotfl:

I cited Cameroon's literacy rate because Bob said they were poor, uneducated africans.

The Pope cannot teach error in matters of faith and moral values. Remember the doctrine of infallibility granted him by God the Holy Spirit in these areas defined at Vatican I from your religion class? If he does, he's not the Pope. Cathechism basics. The Church is protected in these areas. As a non-believer, i don't expect you to be able to "wrap your mind around it".

As far as my thought process goes...well I guess you were trying to insult me? I hope I'm not making you angry. The school yard thing was a joke from one Catholic School kid to another.......
