Jensieblue brings up something I heard a few weeks ago on the radio show, "Car Talk." Someone called in asking if there was a way to prevent a thief from opening the hood on an older model car, because the battery was stolen. The caller had no idea why someone would want to steal an old car battery. The Car Talk guys knew. They said the best way for a thief to get a new battery was to steal someone's battery. Then wait a few days and steal the new one after you replace it. It may be wise to take that into consideration with house burglaries too.

Motion detector flood lights are also a great deterrent, probably better than keeping the lights on all the time.
