Goats are cheap, but only if you have plenty of lawn for them to eat. You might even open a petting zoo, and at the end of the summer, you can eat your lawnmower. No gas, no broken mower, no too-hot-to-mow days.

1. I really don't have "plenty" of lawn for eating... it's relatively small... so not "good goat eats".

2. RE: Petting Zoo ... I can't risk a goat. With 2 cats, I already don't stand a chance of being the primary recipient of "pets" at my existing petting zoo!

3. RE: eating the lawnmower... I honestly can't EVEN fathom why that comment makes me laugh & snork so much :funn::funn:

In that price range, two or three years is about the life span. The Sears mower above should work fine for you. If you want something that will last a lifetime then it will cost you in the 700+ range and these are ballpark figures. The Toro and Snapper lines you see in the big box stores are low level entry mowers and will not last 5 years. Just depends on what you need vs how much you want to spend. You can learn a ton from this website:

It is my favorite forum on the internet.
Have funn

EDIT: Also check Craig's List if there is one near you. I found a great Snapper mulcher with disc drive two years ago for 65.00 and love it !

Thanks!! Checking all this out.

Not that specific one Dune-ahh, but if you go the store, I imagine you could test it yourself or the salespeople might be of help. Just one review wouldn't stop me when it comes to Sears Craftsman products. I quickly looked at comparably priced HDepot mowers and this one looked sturdier. Plus I like the large back wheels cause it's easier to push. Just my 02.
I use rider mowers, but we have a push one for edges.

I wish I could get to Sears b/4 the end of the sale. I'm just not comfortable buying a mower online.

If you are thinking about the Sears sale, they always have a big sale on Memorial Day, and that might be worth the wait.

Do you recommend any local mower repair shops?

Quite a while back there was an older gentleman in DFS that had a mower repair shop. Don't remember his name. Sorry. I was really cash strapped at the time. Bought a mower for around 50 bucks. Lasted for about 3 seasons so it was around 16.00 dollars for each year it ran. Got my last new one from Home depo for around 250. It still works fine but I put it in the shop once a year for maintenance. I'd look in the ads as well as thifty nickle and such. Depends how much you want to spend now?

good to know... but unfortunately, I really can't wait that long. I LIKE my neighbors too much to become "the shame of the 'hood"!
