Update on state dogfly program

Hey all thought i would give you a update on the state's dogfly spraying program. As of june 30th it will be officially done away with and most assets going to forrestry with exception of the plane which is for sale!!!. The director is your new mosquito director,myself and one of the secretaries now work for Fla A&M mosquito research lab in panama city. The remaining 2 employees have yet to find employment. so the only dog fly spraying going on this fall will be on panama city beach as they have their own helicopter. Im actually working for Enviromental impact section. (effects of pesticides on butterflies,bees, dragonflies.crabs and fish just to name a few) Including an endangered species called Miami blue's .Also im doing a little study of my own on the use of plastic bags filled with water for use on the beach for dogfly's. Ill ley you all know how it goes.

I am going to miss the plane.......the flies are terrible when they are here. Wasn't the plane ancient/dangerous........? Did we lose the plane due to cuts in state funding? Can you update me on this?

Somebody's nuts as far as I'm concerned! That issue was buffaloed in, and decided much too quickly without having all pertinent information! I have decided to run for seat 2 of the SWMC board!

I appreciate anybody throwing their hat in the ring to make things better in Walton County! Would you care to elaborate on "nuts", "buffaloed" and not having all the pertinent info? I asked the flyguy for more info...sounds like maybe you can help me with my questions. And, just to be absolutely fair....you are running against my brother and you are welcome to PM me with your response.

I'd hoped to fill the seat taken by Burke, but that will be decided by the Dept of Agriculture later. I have nothing against Mr. Crawford, I don't know him that well. The issue with the Dog fly plane apparently was brought up so quickly, that the state people didn't have opportunity to defend itself. The commissioners were apparently overwhelmed by a group of individuals who did show up who compared the spray to "Hitler's gas", and had no knowledge of life without the plane. My position is if there is something better, let's see it. Any substance used goes through rigorous testing and must be approved by the FDA. To remove this without replacing it with something better is foolish!

Thank you FLoridaGirl....I appreciate your response. Your family, like mine, have been very civic minded for the community and I wish more people would be. Over dinner last night my mother made a comment that I thought you would appreciate. She knew your father and commended his community mindedness and said, and this is a quote, "he was a very good man." I hope you follow in his footsteps as I know you would be so proud to do....and I would be proud of you as well. Obviously, I am biased in this race, however, I do wish you well and the best of luck.

I have complete knowledge of life without a Dog Fly plane. I grew up on a farm with gnats, dog flies, Deer Flies, etc, and never once did a plane spray pesticides on me.

As for your statement about the FDA approving the pesticides (that is a chemical which is intended to kill insects), do you have any proof of that statement? I have searched the internet high and low, and cannot find any information stating the the FDA is responsible for testing Naled (Dibrom), and that they approved it. The FDA is in charge of food and drugs, not pesticides, so unless you are going to be selling the pesticide as food or drugs, the EPA would be doing the testing.
