you are right,EPA did test & approve it for spraying and recently defended that decision with more testing i can try to look up the info.

Seagrove girl yes the plane frame was old 1943 but the engines were up to date rebuilts factory tested and the plane and engines were "Annually" Inspected under the same strict guidlines as most other commercial aircraft today. Also the chief pilot had well over 10 years experiance flying this particular aircraft at low altitudes even at night (for mosquitoes)The two main reasons the program was cut was budget shortfall and not enough support from other mosqiuto districts (including south walton). The #!*#& about the plane being old and unsafe was just an excuse to help close the program . those planes are still widely flown all over the united states and the world. heck thers new modern planes crashing all the time with mechanical failures. it's like the saying goes what plane goes up must come down it's just a matter of whether it's a controlled decent or not!!. Ill tell you this with a experianced pilot i would not be afraid to fly my whole family over the ocean on this plane.

dogflyguy, that is funny that mention the date on the plane, some friends of mine pointed out that the date of manufacture is on the door frame of any commercial plane. Check it out sometimes, might be shocked at how old some of those are.

I can remember South Walton before the Mosquito Control, and the Dog Fly Program. I never lived on a farm. I lived in Grayton Beach until I was 6, then we moved to the bay in Santa Rosa Beach, population about 350. There is no comparison between then and now. The jist of it is that it is foolish to compare the spray to Hitler's gas!

Did you find any documentation about the FDA approving Naled (Dibrom)? If you are running for the Board, perhaps you should get familiar with the poisons before gassing everyone with poisons. There are plenty of poisons already in our life. We certainly don't need blanket spraying.

I think your issue is more than just the dog fly plane, or the poisons used. I think fear is the problem. Fear of death, fear of the unknown. That cannot be eased by anything I would say, or anyone else, concerning the poisons used. It doesn't seem to make any difference what testing was done, and by whom.

I'm a strong believer of good stewardship of our land. I've seen nature overtake man when allowed. Not pleasant. Dad taught me about balance of nature as a child.

Such arrogance! It really chaps my backside that people like you are in our governement. But I guess arrogance is what it takes to think you know best how to protect people with dangerous toxins. Shouldn't someone in control of poisons have some formal education in chemistry, biology, or environmental science?

I've read your previous posts about how ordinary folks who were here long before "the newcomers" have wisdom and learn from experience and know better than all them city-fied college edumucated tree huggers.

Here's what I fear - that anyone else running for the postion probably thinks the same way you do.

You have a right to think what you like, as well as I do. Why do you think it strange that someone disagrees with you, and actually says so? You speak your mind, why shouldn't I? What, I'm supposed to keep my mouth shut? You call it arrogance, I call it authority. I believe we are on the top of the food chain, due the "grey matter" between our ears that seperates us from animals. We have great responsibilty to manage our land, and I take that seriously.
