and that is why they are hesitant to tell anyone. They don't want to be stuck with all of those outdated stamps. I think we should all only one cent stamps and fill the envelopes.

If the USPO didn't have a monopoly on first class mail, it wouldn't be near as frustrating.

I cannot say that I truly have a problem with the idea of paying $0.41 to send a letter to Washington state without having to leave my yard. I just wish I wasn't stuck with these $0.39 stamps which I now have to go out and buy $0.02 stamps to attach with them. The USPS will not allow us to cash in stamps, not even for store credit. It is just a hassle. They need a more advanced system which could also be less expensive and more efficient. However, I don't expect more since they are a part of the US Fed Gov't. Look out when we further our reliance on the Fed Gov't via healthcare, insurance, retirement plans, etc.

That's exactly my point, and you beat me to it rather than let me lead you there. The price isn't bad, but the service is abysmal. However, since the USPO is federally subsidized, the true cost to mail a letter is substantially more. I'm guessing we'd net better if anyone was allowed to mail a first class letter.

guess what? the forever stamp is not forever. they are producing only a limited number of them, so unless you buy and hold them until after the postage increases again, before using them, they won't save you any money, but they sure make people think they are getting one up on uncle sam. even thought the website states that it will ease the hassle of buying the two cent stamps increase (which really places a strain on the postal workers as the lines back up for a few weeks), the perception by the public is that they can pay more for a stamp now, buying them well in advance, and not have to worry about the prices going up again. why it took the usps this many years to come up with this simple idea is well beyond me, other than it is the feds being the feds.

The nice lady at the Seaside Post Office was very helpful and told me to buy only as many stamps as I would use in the next week. :D So she gets a Mr. Modica award.:clap_1:

those two are charming sweet characters. i don't know how the federal government found such people and actually convinced them to stay.
