why don't people stay home when it snows so bad - what part of the concept of saying 'be safe in the really bad snowstorm' don't employers have to get (and pay for through the nose with civil 'wrongful death' lawsuits) - unless you are in a 'necessary' public services job, such as a nurse, police, fire, ambulance, you shouldnt be made to report to work with a gun to your head - unless you just have to get away from your wife and screaming kids or you'll possibly do something worse

I think that in Audie's neck of the woods, they are quite capable of braving the snowy streets without fear of trouble. Now, here in SC...one snow flake constitutes a major traffic dilemma

Our boss lives in Georgia at Sea Island. When we get inclement weather she expects us at work no matter what is on the ground. We have 5 people in our office, we have no walk-in business. All our business is handled through internet requests for information and internet orders and phone calls. We are a small non-profit office. She bases the decision of our having to be at work on what the printing company does that prints our books and other materials we sell. If they can make it into work we have to be there at our work. We do not get daily delivery from them, we only have deliveries when we do an online order to restock stuff we are low on. And that is about once every week or two. She doesn't care if we risk being in a wreck trying to drive on the black ice and snow to work. It's expected. :sosad:

bad is relative, DC seems to come to a standstill with 3" of snow, whereas is in the mountains, 3" is seen as meltoff. if everyone took time off, i'm thinking that christmas presents wouldn't arrive in time, gas stations wouldn't have enough gas for those that are driving elsewhere, etc. is a plow driver included in your necessary job list, or plumber for burst pipes, wrecker driver, milkman and food delivery driver, newpaper delivery person, bus driver, airplane pilot, switch operator at the nuclear plant, barge captain, subway operator...??
