Michigan but someday in SoWal as well
Very pretty, Audie. There is something very special about the first snowstorms of the season up north. They are magical. (they do get old by late February though when we want to see some green and some flowers).

Mango: Don't you get hit by Northeasterners' big time where you live?

Aquabiotic: A few inches of snow, unless it's really fresh or has ice under it, is not much for us to worry about. But staying home is a great idea when it is worse.

Kurt: Very bad! Bad bad.

Audie, we woke up to a nice little dusting of snow as well and I'll agree that it looks very pretty. Perfect for me, since today I'm going to a Christmas luncheon at the country club and now I'm in the holiday spirit! Now if I could only find some Christmassy green/red clothing in my wardrobe, I'd be all set. (Not a color combo I'm particularly fond of so it's hard. :sosad: )

Mermy do you have any cream/ivory and gold to wear for your Christmas luncheon. That's festive and you will look great in those colors. Have funn! I'm sure you will look stunning whatever you wear.

bad is relative, DC seems to come to a standstill with 3" of snow, whereas is in the mountains, 3" is seen as meltoff. if everyone took time off, i'm thinking that christmas presents wouldn't arrive in time, gas stations wouldn't have enough gas for those that are driving elsewhere, etc. is a plow driver included in your necessary job list, or plumber for burst pipes, wrecker driver, milkman and food delivery driver, newpaper delivery person, bus driver, airplane pilot, switch operator at the nuclear plant, barge captain, subway operator...??
...and any snow falling in Atlanta means traffic comes to a standstill, everyone takes off work for a couple of days, saying that their power is out or their car cannot make it out of the driveway.

why don't people stay home when it snows so bad - what part of the concept of saying 'be safe in the really bad snowstorm' don't employers have to get (and pay for through the nose with civil 'wrongful death' lawsuits) - unless you are in a 'necessary' public services job, such as a nurse, police, fire, ambulance, you shouldnt be made to report to work with a gun to your head - unless you just have to get away from your wife and screaming kids or you'll possibly do something worse
Well, last Friday when we got 12 inches of snow, high school was not canceled. And believe me, there was plenty of notice in the previous 24 hrs that the snow was coming. When we got up that a.m., about 6" had already fallen and we thought surely, school would be canceled. But it wasn't. So we got our son up, Mr. JR went out and shoveled/snowblowed just to get out of the driveway to take him to school. Niether one of us drove into work but worked from home computers. At 10:00, our son calls and said it was mass exodus with eveyone going back home - - none of his teachers were even there!!!!!! So the driveway had to be re-shoveled to be able to get out again. A real pain and we should've kept him home.

But the kicker to all this is last night we received an automated phone call from the school superintendent apologizing for his poor decision, the inconvenience and the risk that most took to try to get their kids to school.

This is an area that can easily handle a foot of snow and most do try to get to work but it can be treacherous. Not to mention, it can happen many times during a season so life goes on.

Our temps in Memphis are going to be falling throughout the afternoon. Showing 33 for around midday and around 28 for early evening. Lows in the morning 15-20. The front is coming through as we speak. They say we could see a few flurries.

That is what I call a "no-brainer," but I have a feeling that 12" of snow and ice in Chicago is just another fall day.
