If you think the produce in Not-So-Super-Wal-mart is crappy, let me invite you to Kelly's Grocery Store, located in Freeport. I should take photos the next time I'm in there. Every cashier in there has a cough, year-round, and I'm not sure if they have the Flu or if it is smoker's hack, or a combination of both. I used to think that Winn-Dixie was the bottom of the barrel, but I'm telling you that NotSo-SuperWalmart looks nice and shiny compared to Kelly's.

Every time I find myself in the parking lot of the Bluewater Bay Winn-Dixie, I'm surrounded by Walton County plates. I always assumed it was because of problems with Kelly's, and it's interesting to hear confirmation of that.

As for Walmart, they only have low prices as long as they have to compete against other stores. Once they get their effective monopoly, they turn around and raise prices. When we moved down here from Tennessee, our grocery bill went down, even after accounting for the lack of sales tax on food here. In Tennessee, we shopped at the 'always lowest price' Super Walmart in Union City. Here, Publix hadn't moved in yet and we were shopping at the FWB Albertson's, which was supposed to be the most expensive grocery store in the area at the time.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly about Wal-Mart. (My view)
Wal-Mart in the beginning was a Good thing, Sam ad it setup that they only bought and than resold American made products. Most products were bought from small business's and kept rural America thriving. Than the Bad, Sam passed on, The cooperate gurus went on a by it cheap and sell it fast, hence Mexico China, etc came into play. The Ugly, Now there is a huge void in Rural America were these business's once employed hundreds and thousands move out of America, and the few that could found work at the very Wally World they once produced the products for working at minimum wages. Yes.. the American dream is real.... If you live in Mexico JMO.
Happy Holidays!

For future reference, tell your husband that, as long as he doesn't have produce items which need to be weighed, he can also check out at the "Jewelry" counter and the sporting good counter, which are usually not nearly as busy as the front counters during spring break.

Here's some trivia for you from a few years ago -- not sure if it still holds true today, but out of all the walmarts in the world, the one in Destin had the highest dollar volume of sales for wine, and the one in Panama City Beach had the highest dollar volume for beer sales.

As I apparently continue to reveal my vast resume. The wally world of PCB is normally in the top 10 list nation wide for most sales. I worked there at the end of the season a few years ago and in the "employee area" (see broom closet with vending machines and microwave) they had a huge sign with the current years sales, at that point it was on the high end of 8 million and this was before Black Friday.

Oh and the PCB wally world is the place to go to get the black friday specials as they are DEAD on that day in the morning. At least compared to the he!! on earth that is the wally world in Callaway.

I wont bore you with further details, but lets just say two words..China........

LEAD PAINT:eek:

Mexico ........

Raw human waste on produce.....

I am sure the list is longer but this should suffice IMO

I am pretty sure that happened in California as well...at least twice in recent memory! I am of the opinion that legitimate economic progress in Mexico benefits both the US and Mexico.
