If you think the produce in Not-So-Super-Wal-mart is crappy, let me invite you to Kelly's Grocery Store, located in Freeport. I should take photos the next time I'm in there. Every cashier in there has a cough, year-round, and I'm not sure if they have the Flu or if it is smoker's hack, or a combination of both. I used to think that Winn-Dixie was the bottom of the barrel, but I'm telling you that NotSo-SuperWalmart looks nice and shiny compared to Kelly's.
Every time I find myself in the parking lot of the Bluewater Bay Winn-Dixie, I'm surrounded by Walton County plates. I always assumed it was because of problems with Kelly's, and it's interesting to hear confirmation of that.
As for Walmart, they only have low prices as long as they have to compete against other stores. Once they get their effective monopoly, they turn around and raise prices. When we moved down here from Tennessee, our grocery bill went down, even after accounting for the lack of sales tax on food here. In Tennessee, we shopped at the 'always lowest price' Super Walmart in Union City. Here, Publix hadn't moved in yet and we were shopping at the FWB Albertson's, which was supposed to be the most expensive grocery store in the area at the time.

I love it. And I love Diane Arbus!
