Wal-mart

Walmart was/is inevitable. An American's time is intrinsically no more valuable than a monkey's or a chinese's or a mexican's when the job is pulling a lever, pushing a button, sewing undies on a doll, etc..The world is being commoditized and it is a race to the bottom in free marketry. I am not condemning or praising..just observing. Learn some skills and differentiate products -offer the non commoditized or educate the customer as to why your product is better. I rarely shop at Walmart. But I will if they have something I want, like many I prefer Target for that kind of item or better yet Amazon and have it brought to my doorstep. I am all for shopping local when local is a better value i.e For the Health of It on certain grocery items, Toni's for fresh available produce (Stan's when he was around). My cousin was looking for a beach umbrella over the summer Grayton was $24 or something-Walmart was $6..so was Wings but I really don't like those places. I am not paying 4 times for the exact same crap item. Speaking of put $ where the mouth is and go shop the local spots keep the fresh food places around so I can keep buying from them. I just don't believe in demonizing a company for doing what it is supposed to do and we ask for and commend as a people. That being said it is forums and debate like this that can change the way companies do business.

I'm not going to argue with you, SJ. I almost always agree with what you say, but not this time. I am not talking about Wal Mart making this country great, I am talking about the genral conservative attitude of the great American populace which I still believe in and see very little of many times on this board. I guess I should say my belief in the total values of America. It seems many do not relate to what we have compared to other places in the world. Until you experience it first hand it is hard to understand and accept and I am not talking about vacations, I'm talking about living elsewhere in the world.

Well, I guess you all answered my question. You all really do hate Wal Mart. I could tell you a story about the nicest thing I have ever had happen to me at a store...right here in Destin, but with all the attitudes I've seen here and the questionable "facts" I've noticed which were posted, why bother. To make everyone happy I'll just sell the few shares of stock I have and realize how "evil" Wal Mart really is. Yeah, right! Some of you really need to understand what make America the great county it really is and it isn't just companies like Wal Mart.

I don't know what your story is about, but I'm sure that you can still find nice people working there and have pleasant experiences there...

That's a pretty broad brush you're using there. I can't say that I understand your line of reasoning. I think I have a fairly decent handle on what we have compared to the rest of the world, but I'm not sure why that means I should be in love with Wal Mart. In fact, my perspective on how good we have it here is one of the reasons I don't like Wal Mart.

i'm sure anyone who bought walmart stock way back whenever is all warm and toasty in it's current value. why would they dream of looking any deeper.

fwiw, i met a very jovial checker at walmart defuniak yesterday, who facing one of the busiest days of the year was in great spirits, while his co-worker checker announced "i'm going on break" and walked off.

re the parking angst of some above, if we all didn't need to park within 25' of the door, the mayhem would not be a factor. i park pretty far out and walk a bit, something most americans could use a little of

I went to Wal-Mart yesterday here in town. Lots better than fighting the Buckhead traffic just to get the new Alicia Keyes CD as a stocking stuffer for hubby. Friday it was taking an hour just to get in and out of the parking lot at Lenox Square once you had arrived. Phipps wasn't bad.

Now that is something I thought I would never see/read.....BR IN WAL-MART. I wish I had been a fly on the wall to have seen that. Ok, tell the truth BR, what else did you buy while you were in there? You know I am just funning with you. ;-) Merry Christmas!!!!!

Yup, I fully agree with you on most of this post, Wal-Mart creates its own clients by being the great white hope! Yes that means No jobs in the states but we support sweat shops in other countries every time we buy from there. So low income because of no jobs means Wal-Mart will have plenty of clients today and in the future.

I laugh at the claim of how many DO NOT WALK IN THEM DAR DOORS! :rofl::rofl: Yeah right, Well even if you don't you will more than likely have to in the future, see all these fancy ritzy shops will also go away as time passes. Because of Walmart, America was able to morph from what once was a world-class manufacturing/industrial nation into a service-oriented (and lower wage) nation without much notice.

Instead of Walmart, it could possibly be due to GM and it's acquiescence to union demands. Or, maybe variety of factors contributed.

In DeFuniak, most drivers have absolutely no concept what a crosswalk is. This includes my almost 25-years-in-law-enforcement spouse. :roll:

"Well, dear, she IS in the crosswalk."
"Sheet...we were there first, and she should have looked both ways."

Interesting that you make a distinction by location. I have noticed similar driving habits at every WalMart. The only time I saw someone stop for a pedestrian was at the WalMart on Middle Beach Road in PCB, when the girl talking on the cell phone, while attempting to drive, stopped at the stop sign, then proceeded and the old mans buggy as he was walking in front of the car. The old man jumped back about 5 feet, and I about had a heart attack. I did a bit of yelling at the girl, as did the old man.
