Oh, Geo, they do mock us. Here, and in the media. You cannot say that for some welfare recipients it is not a way of life even if it is a small minority. The rest is "poetic license", IMO.

Regarding mocking- Fair point, Andy. I retract. But all viewpoints mock their polar opposite. I am called a liberal (gasp) because some of my views are relatively liberal.

I'm not at all saying that welfare isn't a way of life for some people. But this sad segment of recipients is the exception and not the norm.

I have little patience for folks who pound their chest and make sweeping incorrect generalizations about the welfare system based on stereotypes while telling me that I need to inform myself.

Just goes to prove you can go a long way without a "college education".

This is true. One does not need a degree to succeed in this country.
But let's not forget why Hannity is successful-

IT IS BECAUSE HE IS AN EFFECTIVE SPEAKER/COMMUNICATOR.

Not because of his education/knowledge//smarts (or lack thereof)...

There should be greater focus in school (and in the home) on teaching communication skills...

Ever been to Memphis Geo???? I'm not trying to argue your point because I also believe that welfare has it's place in society....I just think it's a little nieve to think it's the exception

good point, but when a news organization throws it's weight behind a personality, wouldn't you think a solid formal education would be a desirable trait given the thousands of hours that personality will be spewing his opinion?

Nope. If you can read without seeming like you are reading, if you can speak well in both an extemporaneous and impromptu fashion, if you can keep your cool most of the time and be passionate other times and if you look good and the sound of your voice is good-

then I do not believe it matters one bit to media organizations what your education is/is not...

2 cents...

Right here!
Hannity is off in la la land, but I've been watching O'Reily again and I have to say, the guy has got his game on. Very compelling stuff over the last few weeks.

Yes, I have. Don't call me naive because I disagree with you based on facts. I have done my homework. When I was in graduate school welfare reform was hot. I used to share your opinion based on my south side of Chicago upbringing. I did much research on this topic looking for data to back up my (your) views. My eyes were opened when I learned that the vast majority of welfare recipients were dependent upon aid for only a short period of time. And they are not from inner city slums. And they are white.

It IS the exception...

I think that the ratio of welfare recipients to the entire population in Walton County is higher than in most mid sized cities. I know that 46% of the students in Walton County are eligible for reduced/free lunches. Jackonville, by comparison, has 39% eligible.

Most rural counties have a serious welfare problem.

Fox is on. I watch on occasion but haven't in many months. OMG- I am fascinated. I wish I could post a transcript. This country is screwed...

Interesting. I forced myself to watch prime time news on MSNBC and CNN this week also and was "OMG-fascinated" myself. I watched Olberman poke fun and mockery at FOX news on his Worst/Worstest segment, which was very embarrasing. Then I turned over to CNN to watch some hardball with Chris (I get a thrill up my leg every time Obama speaks) Matthews and he was clearly trying to be intimidating like Bill O'reilly. So there you have it, media bias is rampant. When I see news reports that never make it to MSM or blatantly false reports not getting corrected, I stand in awe scratching my head.
Good grief, read Olbermans bio, here we have a sports expert commenting on news and politics. Reminds me of the newseek covers that Kurt posted that gained so much attention. Oh, the irony.
Whatever sells us we will watch.
