Yes it absolutely is.
And this is one example in today's news from WZEP of how that privilege is abused just as guns are abused.

PASSENGER KILLED IN CRASH WHILE FLEEING TROOPERS
A woman is dead in Holmes County after the car she was riding in crashed while fleeing from police late Monday night.
The Florida Highway Patrol says a 2005 Toyota, driven by 27-year-old Crystal Beth Williams of Geneva, AL was traveling south on Geneva County Road 33 when Alabama State Troopers attempted to stop her. Williams fled towards the Florida state line with Alabama Troopers in pursuit.
Troopers terminated the pursuit as they entered Florida but Williams continued on at a high rate of speed on Holmes County Road 179A. She lost control of her car in a curve, ran off the road and overturned several times striking a power pole and crushing the roof. As the car overturned, Williams was ejected from the vehicle.
Alabama Troopers learned of the crash, came to investigate and discovered it was the same car.
Williams and her passenger, 23-year-old Amber L. Kendrick of Geneva were transported to Wiregrass Hospital in Dothan where Kendrick was pronounced dead on arrival.
Williams was treated and released. She was immediately arrested by Alabama State Troopers and charged with Fleeing and Eluding among other charges. She was booked into the Geneva County Jail early Tuesday morning. Williams admitted to being a regular user of Methamphetamines.
The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting the homicide investigation and Williams will likely face additional charges in Florida. Troopers have not disclosed why Williams chose to flee or refused to stop.
