Great fishing in Wewa too. Daddy had a house a Douglas Landing and a fish camp about 8 miles down the Apalichacola. The river is deep and muddy and flows like rapids some of the time. The dead lakes have HUGE bass and offer some of the finest fishing ever. :D
I am soooo happy that you are moving and the Lucky's will all become Wewa Gators!

Note: Riches' IGA should not be compared to Kelley's in Freeport. Riches is WAY better (or it use to be back in 1984). Go to the Dixie Dandy for fresh local veggies and see Smiley for your tupelo honey. I am serious about the dip cone at the Wewa restuarant.

You know I really miss Stuckey's. Road trips are not the same without Stuckey's. :sosad:

OMgosh...growing up we always stopped at Stuckey's. My mom HAD to have their pecan logs. We loved it b/c we got ice cream. Breakfast wasn't that bad either....shredded hashbrowns with eggs over easy...all mixed together...mmm. :banging:Ahhhh, when am I gonna stop thinking about food so much?!!!!

I'm guessing you must love dip cones.
Ice cream is one of my 2 favorite food groups, but, TFT got what I was getting at...vvv

I'm thinking she was thankful for the explanation. I understand the confusion ... I actually thought of Wewahitchka, but the rest of the story didn't compute. I admit it. I learn something from SoWallers every day. Good luck to the Luckys!

Although Wewa isn't quite the banjo picking mecca it could be. It does constantly surprise me that we haven't seen it on some sort of reality show yet.

Ah...now I get it. Thanks, TFT.
Update, just talked to my sis a while ago, they are there safe and sound. Got in last night about 7:30, a crew was waiting for them to unload the truck, which was done in record time. They discovered since their last visit, their next-door neighbor has been elected sheriff! Sounds like the perfect place for the sheriff--next door to the town's new youth minister. :rotfl:
Romeo, I'll make sure she reads all the great info you've posted here. Maybe next month you can tell her in person; I think she might come bunk with us at John R's for a while. (Better yet, wanna ride to Wewa?) ;-)

Posting from Wewa where we finally got our "country cable" and can once again communicate online! You can't imagine my relief...

Quick recap of the last two weeks...

Our departure on May 22 did not happen as planned, but it all turned out okay. When you have all of your possessions sprawled out all over the driveway awaiting entrance to a 26-foot UHAUL and a group of people looking to you to tell them where to put it, you quickly realize that leaving the next day just isn't going to happen. We scrapped the plan to leave on the morning of the 22nd and decided to leave at midnight the 23rd. We also realized that that was not going to happen as we were still loading the last of our belongings at our appointed departure hour. We did wrap up around midnight, slept for a couple of hours and then with Mr. Lucky in the UHAUL towing our minivan (which was packed to capacity) and me in the car (with just enough room to drive and stow away our fish) we hit the road at 3:30 a.m. on Friday.

To make a long story short, 15 hours later we pulled into our driveway. We had a meal and then more people showed up to empty our truck. By 11 p.m. we were in the house and free to rest.

We have received a very warm welcome from our church (and the weather!) and are still working to settle in and transfer life in Illinois to life here, but things are going well. However, if we move again, I have vowed to either torch it all and start fresh or spend the money to hire movers.

Romeo, thanks for the suggestions! We are still learning about life in Wewa. It is a small town but I do like it. There's good and about about anywhere and although Wewa is "special" in some areas, I think we'll really enjoy our time here. We missed the honey festival but I'm sure there are other local festivities we're just in time to enjoy.

We've been to a high school football game already (exhibition game) as well as graduation. I'm pretty sure we saw the whole town at graduation :D We've spent some time in the homes of some of our church members and we're meeting other people as we are out and about. There's a definite charm to moving to a smaller community, but I know it can have its downside, too. For now we are just enjoying meeting everyone and exploring our surroundings.

So far, so good! Now we have to make it to the beach!

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers for our journey down here
