Seems like they would be itchy/scratchy, don't they? But they are supposed to be very soft.

They are soft...I had to touch them when I saw them at Target. Will they hold up well and not get nubby?

Well, I can't say for sure, but usually what makes fabric/garments get nubby is the synthetic fibers added. Sweaters that show the most pilling, for example, tend to be acrylic or acrylic blend knits.

I would've never dreamed in a million years that a bed sheet thread would go on this long! It's not particularly interesting but I just have to keep checking it everytime I see it come up in the New Posts thing!

Yes, you'd have thought that Smiling JOe would have stopped it dead in its tracks on Post #3. :funn:

JR, you should know better--there are threads months old that will suddenly resurrect!
I'm guilty of bringing back this one, I admit. Just trying to sell something eco-friendly from my favorite store! Shameless promotion, albeit free advertising!

"Now there's thread-count inflation: 300 threads per inch used to be sheer indulgence, but today brands are boasting numbers as high as 800 at prices as low as $169.99 for a set of sheets. Don't believe it, says Kathleen Huddy, Good Housekeeping Institute textiles director."

See full article from Good Housekeeping regarding the lying involved in the thread counts.

Great, Someone JUST gave me some (are you ready for this) 1200 thread count 100% cotten sheets. Now after reading the article they may only be 100 or so. I can tell a difference in the quality of how they feel and my DH has been laughing at me being excited about sheets. They have only been washed once, in 6 months they may be gauze!!!.

The thread count is not regulated by the govt, and some of the threads counts consider one strand of thread (which may be three single threads woven together to make one) to count as three.
Also, the Sateen sheets can be misleading too as to softness like silk. Some companies are spraying the sheets with a chemical to give it that soft feeling, but after 5 -6 washings, the feel of silk is gone. The towel industry also does this to give you that soft cuddly feel in the store. Wonder why it disappears later? Now you know.

"If it is too good to be true, it probably is." I am sticking with the jersey cotton sheets that are cheap as h_ll and are still comfy after numerous wahsings. ;-)
