I'm talking aboutlooting and you somehow think I'm referring to bottled water & loaves of bread being stolen at a grocery store? Is there any rational thinking going on up there anymore?

You always need more specifics....

Do you know exactly what you are referring to? It is a difficult question isn't it. At what precise point do you say it's looting beyond food and water?

Entire towns are gone and tens of thousands of people are dead or missing. Millions are without basic human necessities like food, shelter, water, and power.

And frankly I find the fact that THIS is what we are discussing in the wake of such tragedy rather distasteful.

God forbid we find some good in humanity in situations like this instead of using it to further our personal and political agendas.

It's sad when folks refuse to post here anymore because of the rudeness displayed by several of the folks above. I received several emails/private messages about this thread from folks that think having an honest discussion is a waste of time here. If you're nasty enough good people leave. This is why this board isn't balanced. You're left with a collection of bottom feeders.

The looters during Katrina are the scumb of the earth. They have no morals or values. They can not be compared to the people of Japan!

there was a great example of the dichotomy in the coverage of Katrina that was summed up in two pictures. I wish I could find them again but can't.

Picture 1: Black couple with food items (bread, soda, can goods) and stuff like that wading through the water heading away from a store. The caption referred to them as having looted the store.

Picture 2: White couple with food items (bread, soda, can goods) and stuff like that wading through the water heading away from a store. Yeah...basically the exact same stuff. The caption referred to them as having found provisions to help them survive the flood.

WT**?

It's my personal belief that American's are rife with a sense of entitlement so when there is a disaster it's every man for himself but all for the wrong reasons.

Japanese culture is so not that...

Just my opinion. Doesn't mean it's right or wrong...

AG - I think you hit upon a good topic for discussion - looting and culture - compare and contrast American and Japanese culture, religion, philosophy, history, etc...

Everyone has offered their opinions or thoughts on the matter. Some posters agree with your statement, some are a little offended with how your first statement seems to denigrade others (americans), some have offered their own insight on the topic which just adds a little more depth (which is the whole reason for these discussions). Some have offered humor or sarcasm - typical!

Why be defensive if you start a thread and expect real live discussion from a wide range of people? Do you think everyone should agree with your statements in order to have proper "balance" here? Its not about whether others agree with your comments, or have the same politics as you, or whether they are the kind of people you like.

Rules and manners apply here just as they do in real life conversations. Give and take, share and consider. Start a thread - carefully and considerately moderate it.

I find your above statement offensive to all and rude.. and you have caused posters here to waste their good time on your topic. Too bad. There was some potential.
